i need a hand here. i dont know what the hell is going on. i have the same computer ive had since the last time i played deus ex (which was years ago). something happens now that about 2-3 seconds after my loading into the NYC Airfield map, the game just freezes up and stops responding. it makes no difference whether i am loading from a save game or another map. i have patched twice, reinstalled, tried cheating through it and not a damn thing works. does anyone know what the hell is happening? this did not happen the last time i played the game all the way through and like i said, i am running it on the same system. i cant tell you all how close ive come to giving my p.o.s. windows 98 hp a swift sidekick. please, someone help before i break the f-ing thing.

Have you downloaded any drivers?
Sometimes the newest ones break games...
Does it only happen with Deus Ex, or other games as well?

I've had this problem once too. Can't quite remember how I fixed it, but I would start by messing with your video options. Ramp down the details, etc and see if that gets you anywhere.

im sure ive updated w/ new drivers since then. i have an ati 128 all in wonder card and i went to the ati site to get some newer drivers a few days ago and couldnt find them. the only ones i could find were from like 2001 which im sure ive already gotten. this problem only happens with this game. ive also tried messing with the video options as well and still no dice. this sucks.

How about the sound options? Maybe changing the sampling rate. It's been a while since I had to deal with the issue myself so I'm afraid I can't be all that much help. I'll look at the options menu when I get home and see if anything jars my memory.

Trying an older driver might help

Try completely uninstalling the old drivers and then reinstalling. It could be that you have some files left over from old ones that are causing problems. Try using this Driver Cleaner utility to clean out your old video card drivers. Make sure to read the readme.

try to start a new game and see if it freezes as well...
maybe you're savegame is corrupted and causes the game to crash all the time!

If you really want to, why aren't you using explicit language? This is the internet; we won't think any less of you.
