I had assumed the typical hybrids are those that were overtaken by annelids, and the planned Hunter-Killer type would be freakish zombie ones made from every dead person on the Von Braun (so the entire ship would be loaded with them).
I dunno, it might not make sense in our science of today, but this is System Shock.
Also pretty much all entertainment relating to science-fiction is prone to just using fancy sounding science terms without real meaning behind him.
