Given the (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folding%40Home) amount of computing power they like to have for protein structure simulation it's not really surprising you need a quantum simulation unit or two to get it done.

I prefer to think that using them to design mutagens to work on dead crewmen is SHODAN out and out lying to you. Because a mutagen, no matter how advanced, won't do anything to something which is dead. You don't get (IIRC) a Many side explanation, but the obvious reason for Malick hacking the SCs in the first place is so that the Many could subvert Xerxes, as this is precisely what you/ SHODAN do later.
I think it's fair to say that the initial purpose of the units themselves is likely not primarily for research as they would almost certainly be located in medsci rather than ops if that were the case. Something in ops ought to be a ship control system of some sort, and FTL control seems a sensible match.

The dead don't normally stand up and attack the person who's performing an autopsy on them either, yet here we are.

Well, they tell that he's dead most likely by cessation of heart and brain activity. If the annelid can circulate blood and is obviously controlling the nervous system, then there's no problem.

Yeah, they're clearly not dead, no matter watt Dr Whats instruments might say. Them being dead also wouldn't fit with them being homologous to the SS1 mutants which are also clearly alive.
ZylonBane on 27/11/2007 at 21:28
And thus, the term "dead" is highly open to interpretation.

Speaking of dead hybrids: A mod that let's gunned down hybrids randomly come back to life would be great. If I'm not mistaken this wouldn't add to respawning but rather replace it (when it happens) as respawns are tied to the number of live hybrids present in the location.
Correct, Zygoptera?

ZB- point taken. I still disagree, as I don't believe that is what SHODAN meant, but there's room for interpretation either way.

Ha hum. Depends. Technically as soon as the thing with the ecotype on it dies the respawn ecology can trigger. So it would all depend on how exactly it was implemented. I'd suspect that something like with T1's zombies could be made to work.

* Mumbles something about a half-written custom ZombieRegen script that, if ever completed, would work for SS2 as well as Thief *
