What possible reason could there be to not deport illegals who commit crimes especially violent crimes?
The lining of certain pockets by large corporations comes into play here, I believe.
That's probably about as complex as the issue is at the moment. There's obviously also a large cost burden on government agencies to take care of deportation, and a simple release is no doubt less costly than what's very likely the very difficult and expensive process of deportation.

Haha, for a second I thought you wrote "immigration and removal" instead of "immigration and approval".
Dang! Page 4.

Sorry but if immigrants are going to come into our country against the law I'm going to call them what they are ..Illegal immigrants. There is nothing derogatory or racist about the term, it simply describes their status. If they don't want to be called that, don't come here illegally.
The term I object to is "illegals," but I object to it in a fairly mild way. There is an argument to be made that blanket terms like "illegals" dehumanize a demographic group of
people and feed the narrow perspective of zealots like phide. Still, the word is common enough in America and I recognize its use doesn't inherently imply bad things about the speaker.
But my, common also is rampart racism in regards to illegal immigration, isn't it? We like to think of ourselves as a progressive nation of equals and I'm not surprised my usage of the R word has caused much flustered defensiveness, but the illegal immigration debate
as we currently know it is largely racist in nature. I've made a few brief points regarding this in the assumption that participants would be able to connect the dots, but I should have known better the moment admitted readers of Ann Coulter joined the fray.
There is nothing racist, of course, about wanting to enforce immigration and deport illegal immigrants. There is also nothing racist about addressing the darker areas of illegal immigration that the left has been known to ignore. There also is nothing inherently racist about wanting to secure the borders, although I still stand by my original claim, more on that in a bit.
So now I have defined (again!) what
isn't racist about immigration debate, and I'll go into detail what exactly
is (again!)
The current level of vitriol powering the anti-illegal immigration side of the debate is ridiculously racist. There is an all-too-common boiling indignation that has turned "people illegally entering America to work" into "lawbreaking darkies invading our country to steal our jobs, use our resources, and leer at our women." Illegal immigrants are seen as a leeching scourge, criminally unaccountable.
This distorted fantasy is at best xenophobic and at worst racist. It distorts valid illegal immigration problems while ignoring the benefits these illegal immigrants provide. It takes legitimate concerns like border security and twists them into cartoonish, meaningless talking points spouted solely by--here we are--imbecilic racists.
The worst thing is it's a self-replicating loop. This racist undercurrent turns the valid concerns of working class Americans into a more expansive atmosphere of racism. Brutal anti-illegal immigration, while not necessarily inherently racist, feeds this. Look at Arizona, where legal immigrants and hispanic citizens have been mistakenly targeted and dark-skinned people have had the legality of their status randomly questioned by strangers.
A friend of mine who migrated from Mexico as a child has had similar experiences, like a month ago when a customer of the high-end athletic supply store he managed openly asked him if he was "an illegal."
It wasn't an isolated incident, and we're getting worse.

For once a well thought out reply without the snide remarks. I truly appreciate that. You make some good points. I also understand the concern because there are a lot of people who just think of Illegals as the "unwashed masses" and have no concept of their humanity. People like you speak of, the followers or readers of Ann Coulter for instance. I am not one of those although since you don't know me, I can understand the misconception, as anyone who comes down on illegal immigration can and probably should be suspected of racism or hysteria. Lets get past that shall we? I personally know at least a half dozen or so illegal immigrants who I have come to know through my work, quite a few I consider friends. So I know them on a personal level. Most quite nice in fact, not all of course, much like the general population. Not everyone is a friend. I also consider myself a progressive and am a fan of (
http://www.thomhartmann.com/) a liberal talk show host on Air America, who strikes me as a very smart person with a progressive view I mostly agree with. Something needs to be done, and getting indignant when someone mentions the word illegal and always viewing them as racist is not the best starting point for constructive discussion on the subject which is why I appreciate you clarifying your view on this and now I can see why you reacted the way you did. I can truly hope that readers of our discussion in this thread can now stop and look at this from different viewpoints and possibly see that they are real people with real problems that intentionally or not are also causing the U.S. problems.
Edit: I kind of object to the term illegal alien, Where did that term come from? They're not from outer space are they?
