I've seen numerous "Underworld remake" projects over the years, some using the original Underworld, some using newer bases like Morrowind, and some attempting to come up with brand new engines, but they all have one thing in common: they arrive, announce their presence, then sputter out and disappear. And my frustration grows.
I need some Underworld, boys. I need it bad. I own the original, but the control scheme is so archaic as to be unusable. Is there any Underworld remake project out there that actualy qualifies as The Real Thing? That can sustain my hope and give me something to look forward to? I'd be happy to wait for it, as long as I know I'm waiting for something that's eventually going to show up.

The trouble with all of the remake attempts so far, in my opinion, is that they have been predominantly solo efforts. I feel that a lot of people have probably underestimated the amount of work that is required to complete it. To my mind, this undertaking would be best suited to a small team.
Personally speaking, it has always been my dream to work as part of a team based UW remake. But it would be a huge undertaking really.

So that's a no, then?
Hell, I'd probably be happy if I could just make mouselook work in the original game. Maybe I should set my sights lower.

Well I'm still working on my heavily UW-influenced game, but it will be a while until something playable appears [to the public]. It also might not be what you're looking for... it will probably have less emphasis on the story and dialog than UW.

(
http://uwadv.sourceforge.net/) UWAdventures looks promising, but isn't done yet.
If you'll settle for something that's merely UUW-
ish, Arx Fatalis is excellent.

I played Arx ages ago, when it first came out. It was very good, but really just felt like an appetizer for a meal I'm still waiting for.
The Underworld Adventures page looks interesting, certainly the sort of thing I'm looking for, but you may notice that it hasn't been updated since October of 2004. All too typical of projects like this, I think; great ideas, great plan, a little work gets done, and then the whole thing evaporates into nothingness.

I emailed the creator of UWA about a month ago but didn't get an answer. Sadly, I'm not sure if he's still working on this or not :(

The news page says October 2004, the dev log says February 2005, but the CVS repository says the project manager last applied some patches just two months ago.
So it seems that there are still things happening with UWA. It's just happening slowly, is all.
