I must be doing something wrong. - by Calagari

Using magic in the game just doesn't seem to be working for me. I find the runes and write them in the air. But when I try to use the light or ignite spell they just don't seem to work for me. I tired to light the fire to cook the fish. I gave up after numerous tries. Maybe the wood was wet. LOL I tried to light my way to see the passages, that failed. So what is it that I am doing so wrong that my spells don't work for me? I have the rune in the book and the spells are written.

For each rune you "finish" writing in the air, the same rune appears at the top right corner of your screen. If it was recognized proper, it will be a normal picture, otherwise it get's crossed out in red (if it is, for instance a rune you don't have yet).
When all two, three or four runes that you need for the spell appeared, just release the spell (release the magic key)
You also need some mana and some magic abilities, so make sure your character got at least some skill in magic.

I am not sure what the number is for mana. But everything else you described happens on my screen ( the runes appear in the upper right hand corner). It is just when ti cast the light spell all I get is a spot and it stops when I take my hand from the key. I will have to recheck the mana spec. thanks fr the heads up.

The ignite spell is cast in the direction you were looking when you pressed the magic key.
So are you looking at what you want to ignite when you cast the spell ? The target should be in the center of your screen when you start your incantations.

Spot?
Do you hear a "fizzle" sound? When a speel fails or backfires, then it fizzles out. Sort of.
And yes, you should be fairly close and looking at thing you want to ignite.
