I think it's wonderful that some people know everyone else's life so intimately that they feel qualified to quantify others' pain as well as their own, then rank them accordingly.
Interesting that in these situations, the speaker himself always seems to come out on top in the numbers game.
Everyone has problems. Everyone suffers. Everyone pays. Now, shut up, muppets. I realize that life can really suck the big one, and that horrible things happen for no reason at all. Seriously. And all you want to do is cry out "Why?!" So, cry out if you want to...
...but not in this kind of thread. If you want to try and compare life-shittiness, start a new thread in Comm-Chat. We love that kind of stuff there.
/me yanks this thread back on topic.
Forsythe, I think the thing that stops me is not so much a difference in my character but the world around me. I know for a fact that people will say the same things every time. There's no randomization (or, very little). I obviously didn't do EVERYTHING in my first go-round, but I believe I did most of it (didn't want to miss anything). I was the head of every faction. I did every single side-quest I came upon. I went hunting for side-quests. The only thing I didn't do is join a House and go dungeon-crawling in random tombs/caves. But, as I haven't even TRIED to play a second time yet, I really can't say whether or not I'll enjoy it. Maybe I'll give it a shot the next rainy day we have.
I think you're point about differentiating characters is a good one. I played as a Khajit con man (almost a thief, but more speechcraft and a few other goodies). The next go through I'm thinking of a Breton monk/mage. It's so hard for me to give up my thiefy tendancies, but I might give it a whirl.

Zaphod: For me it all comes down to role-playing and imagining what isn't there. For example, I the player know that the Telvanni won't come down on my 2nd char for her abolitionist ways (yup, 2nd char was female)... that, in fact, I could gleefully murder just about every Telvanni in the game if I'd wished... but I tried to pretend that they're a slow-to-anger-but-will-kick-your-butt-if-pissed group, so I snuck around and tried to stir up as little "public" trouble in this respect as I could. Anyone who saw me freeing slaves had to be either charmed to 100% love & devotion for my char or "removed" (for rabidly pro-slavery ppl). It's also interesting what double-meanings can be read into innocent dialogue if you keep a certain mindset.

Thank GOD someone did that. It started sounding a lot like a Jewish Retirement center in upstate New York! "Oy Vey! I *wish I had it so good! My svitzle is keflumpt and I fleshkeh when I get veklempt! the doctor's a nice kid, but I've got bunions older than him, and ya know...he's a goy! yeah, what is this world coming to when you can't even find a good Jewish doctor anymore? Oy Vey!"
Note to Jewish readers: I am *NOT* picking on jewish people, but for my first job, I was...(can ya guess???) working in a...(see it coming yet??) jewish retiremnet home (ding!) for three years.:laff:

If it wasn't for mods, I would have uninstalled morrowind a while ago. After you've done everything on one character, I found it to be exactly the same on every other character... class/race doesn't affect any plot lines or anything, they just make a small difference in the beginning. But I found, I was still using the same armor, same weapons, same spells, same enchantments...
Luckily, all these kewl mods keep comming out, I'm currently playing with my funny talking sword. And I'm patiently waiting for a clothing/jewelry mod to be made, :p.

I have that too. I remember playing Fallout 2 just to get my Energy weapons skill up, but once i finished the main quest, i didnt want to play. Even though Mrrwind is less linear, im still going to stay away from the main quest for a while.

I know that feeling of losing inspiration in Morrowind, only I got it far earlier than the main quest. I find I can't play the game unless I feel like I have some point of existence... and after finishing the missions for the Thieve's Guild, the main quest, and all but the top level mission for Hlaalu, I find myself just piddling around endlessly in the gameworld. The game just feels too monochromatic for me, and I find myself slipping into oblivion unless I have a solid bit of story keeping me conscious.

Don't feel sad for me that I will be banned... I deserve it!

I've won it... and I still play it. Not as much as the first month I bought it... but arnd everyother day. Theres still alot of stuff in MW thats awesome. And I never can get enough of the graphics in MW... its just that good.
MW is one of those game for me that I can play anytime and get something out of it. Few games do this to me.

Who here agrees this game would be better if it could be played on the internet or at least had a multiplayer option??? Pretty unnatural for a rpg but hey it would make the game a few times better
Forsythe on 25/7/2002 at 16:30
Hmm.. dunno, Tarataru; I don't really enjoy most games that are multiplayer (and not just because I was around near when they were making the 1st of 'em in text-only, you young whippersnapper *shakes his cane in the air*). Not only is there the danger of the developers neglecting single-player *cough*NeverWinter*cough*Nights*cough*, there's also the chance they'll make it an utterly bland click-fest for both single- and multi-player *cough*Diablo*cough*
I'll grant that there's exceptions to that (Deus Ex, Undying, etc), but in those cases multiplayer is more of an afterthought than built into the heart of the game & plotline. Frankly I just don't see how, using today's technology, they can possibly write something that's meant for multi-player and is also entertaining in single-player. (And yup, I stay away from multi-player; my reflexes stink, so I usually cheat)
