I just had a really strange thought... - by catbarf

Most of us have heard rumors of SS3 being made by EA. Many of us are displeased with the lack of RPG elements in what was supposed to be a successor to SS2- Bioshock. And here is my thought:
It might be unlikely, but there is a very real possibility that SS3 could be more of an RPG than Bioshock is- if the development team decides to make a true RPG or an RPG/FPS hybrid. It might seem far-fetched, but it could happen.
Discuss.

Hopefully. To be honest though I don't see how it could be less of a RPG than BioShock. Maybe it it were a Mario clone? Hmm, no.

Well, that's my point- the company that made SS2 has made a more or less straight-up shooter, and a group that never did anything Shock-related could make a better successor than Irrational themselves.

As much as I never could have imagined saying so just 3 months ago...I also have been having the same thought.

Or not. EA might just want to follow the same path than Irrational by dumbing down the Shock franchise into a console shooter, since that's what gamers want...

Of course- or not. However, there is a market for RPGs- and so a company as large as EA might see this as a way to try and capitalize on both genres at once. Again, I don't think it's really likely- but certainly possible. And that's a disturbing thought.

Just because EA owns it doesnt' mean they'll make it. Raven developed quake 4, not Id. Of course they'd have quite the input into such a project, but who knows who EA would get to develop the game?

Still, the point that catbarf was making is that it's entirely possible that we could get a better successor to SS2 from EA than we did from TDFKAI.

Considering how well Bioshock is selling and the praise its getting everywhere else I think it would be highly likely that SS3 would follow Bioshocks lead. I would love to proven wrong and EA has been acting funny lately what with giving away C&C and all.

Up until Bioshock's release, I never even would have entertained the notion that one of EA's dev teams could actually do a better job than Irrational. But with many of the comments here on TTLG stating Bioshock is nowhere near what they were expecting, this disturbing idea has perhaps suddenly become a possibility.
