Why was this thread moved? Or was it moved away from the Thief Gen Chat? I'll never understand this system.

Got moved out of ThiefGen, yes.

Yeah, my friend's mom bought DX for my birthday. It turned out it was the limited edition. It had a different version number than the DX I was currently running (my friend's copy, not warez or burned!) so I posted a thread in DXgen to see if my saves would work on my new copy. Someone researched it for me and it turns out I had the same crappy edition you did. I still have it; I just play my friend's version. You can look up the thread, it's something about "DX saves".

Thanks people . I was wondering about the save games , what a bummer . I'll contact both Staples and Eidos to tell them what I think .Komag - I have the game case right in front of me and no where do I see any mention of a partial version of the game . Maybe if we all voice our opinions on this sort of thing software vendors will clean up their act . Thanks again .

It's a *limited* edition. What did you expect?
ICEBreaker on 26/5/2002 at 07:34
You are able to return it especially if you buy the GOTY version instead. If you insist politely, they will have no problem exchanging it for you. Keep the \DEUSEX\SAVEDGAME\ folder as well as all the \DEUSEX\SYSTEM\*.INI files.

Hey fade , usually limited edition usually refers to a time period not to the product . I've seen limited editions of lots of vehicles , does that mean they are missing parts ?

Yes, sending letters is a good idea, but send them everywhere. From experience, you might have to send a couple of letter since some people working in recieving complaints use the 'not our fault, lets point finger at the developers/marketers/advertisers/manufacturers/game store (whichever is not us)', and others will apologize nicely and give you something.
(I've had this happen where 3 different parties were all pointing fingers at each other because of a defective product (still under warrenty) and they all refused to give in, this was another Staples problem, and strangely enough they were the ones to give in first, but only barely-- only got the the refund price back after 6 months, and only useable at Staples, how cheap is that?!).
Sound very irrate and say you've discussed this on message boards and everybody supports that you've been had, and basically that you're giving them (youever you're writting the message to at the time) really bad press and will continue to do so until they calm you down.
However, do not be over-enthusiastic and mention stuff like courts and legal issues (but maybe hint at the illegallity of it if your sure Staples is selling them illegally). Big companies have a ton more money than one person, and will know far better how to manipulate the courts. Avoid this approach like the plague!! (I doubt you'd think of doing this, but just in case.)
Again, make sure you send at least one letter and/or phone call to everyone involved (Ion Storm, Staples, anyone else you can think of or they try to pass the fault onto), and don't let them point the finger somewhere else that easily. Call again, ask to speak to their superior, or at least another rep, if they do this. Get angry, (but don't lose your cool), and don't be too easily pacified (ie: simple refund), since this is no skin off their back (except for paperwork), and allows them to keep scamming others at a profit. If you get something out of it, they'll be more likely to listen (since their out the price difference for the full game, or a super-(real)-special edition, or another game from the same company (extra, not less)). Anything less than this is bad company policy, so feel free to continue to bitch about them if they try to get out of this too cheaply.
Oh, almost forgot: Avoid Staples and certain scanner companies from California. : )
Anyway, good luck!

I just got back from Staples where the manager exchanged the full version for my demo version , no charge . He also pulled all the demo versions off the shevles . You're right MechLean , a properly worded email can go a long ways .

Great to hear it! Enjoy your new game.
