A few days ago I figured I'd buy a copy of Deux Ex to fill in the gap between FMs . I headed out to my local Staples and bought a copy of DeusEx with "special limited edition" on the cover and tons of screen shots on the back from through out the game . Well , I just finished the third and last set on the cd . Turns out I did indeed get a special limited edition . Somebody at Ion Storm has an ironic sense of humor . I could understand if this was a new game , but what is a demo doing on the store shevles ? I hope we don't have any special limited editions of Thief 3 when it comes out , because I would sure like to play the whole game .

It may seem that this forum is the wrong one for your problem. There are others better suited for that.
How much was that "special limited edition"?
Did you read the small print on the package?
Why don't you just return it and get the real one?

Being the victim of RL thievery is worth discussing in the Thief forums, especially when Ion Storm and Eidos are the accused Thieves. Such thievery has occured with "Thief Platinum Edition", which came out after "Thief Gold". The Platinum edition was simply the patched version of Thief:TDP. My son got burned on that one (Thief Gold was right next to Platinum on the store shelf with a different price tag).
I am unsure whether Ion Storm has any control over product packaging. At any rate, this deceptive packaging must be brought to the attention of Ion Storm, because it damages their reputation. Eidos's reputation is already damaged beyond repair for many such marketing mistakes.

I agree that it's worth discussing on the Thief forums, but I think Meister is right that it's a bit odd for the FAN MISSION forum, so I'm going to go ahead and move it over to Thief Gen, where it will get more attention and discussion anyway :)
My 2cents - packaging has never fooled me, because I check things out very thoroughly, but perhaps working in a game store helped foster such caution in me. I think it would be better if they didn't try to fool people like that though. More laws to limit what boxes can and can't say might not be the answer, but perhaps letters and complaints to the company would be the way to go

Well, too bad for you. :p (my, I love this non-smiling smiley)

Hmm, well it IS about getting "stolen" from in a way, but perhaps you're right. Anyway, it's out of my hands now!

Yes it is. :)
But, you know...
In DX General someone else might have noticed the same thing.
At any rate, it might not be a bad idea to send a letter to Eidos about it, just to make yourself feel better if nothing else.
And besides, there's a chance they might say "Bah, that sucks, j0... Give us yer address and we'll send you the DX GOTY edition and pleases accept our apologies."
Hey, you never know.
I'd do it, just on the offchance.
But anyway...
GBM gently picks up the thread and moves it over to DX General
:)

That Special Limited Edition was only supposed to come free - with hardware. Stores are selling individual copies illegally, though.
We had complaints about that on the Ion Storm board regularly. :p

You should return it to Staples, tell them what happened and ask for a refund. This is pretty much fraudulant advertising since the buyer would assume he is getting a full game. They did the same thing with Tomb Raider.
