its the Judas priest cross from there 1984 album Defenders of the Faith, back of album replacing one of the letters with the cross
so one of the looking glass people must have been a fan of Judas priest

It'd be ideal if you posted screenshots of both of those crosses, in the game & on the album cover, so we can see what you're talking about. Even trying to look it up in an image search, I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Sorry I don't know how to post images here but a google image search for "Judas priest cross" does return results that look somewhat similar to the hidden "shrine" in the unpatched version of "Running Interference" from T2 (downwinder would have to confirm if that is what he was referring to).
If so it has nothing to do with Judas priest as explained by the person (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75961&p=920723&viewfull=1#post920723) who put it there.

judas priest cross = (
https://styles.redditmedia.com/t5_2sju6/styles/communityIcon_vwnslnhcxfne1.png)
and yes its the same as hidden sigil in thief 1 dark project from first mission, cant find a pic of it but its the same for sure 100%
if there is one that predates 1984, let me know
yes i read the post on guy who added it, but seem unclear over all on what he thinks it is and what version he added and why, seems like he posted every possible one he has seen
cannot find a thief 1 dark project of that cross anymore, seems they been purged from internet, and i run thief gold now so i cant get pic, i will not load up my thief 1 as it would mess up my thief gold set up for a pic, most people know what i mean, but i did add a link to judas priest cross, once you see it, most will be like wow that is it
now if someone can show me that cross that predates 1984 let me know, from what the band said i think one of the art people seen in it a D&D thing, so it does match up with what the guy said with one of his reason listed on his post, and i am sure that might predate 1984 but would be nice to see earlyest version of that cross so we can know the origin of it
this is the link that made me post this in the first place = (

Emerald Wolf is right, it's from T2/Running Interference, not Thief 1.
Close, but not quite the same thing.

You should grow your own spice, along with fruits and vegetables

The first thing that came to mind was that shrine in Mission 1 of TMA, but then you said Thief 1. But yeah, that's what I thought you were talking about. So the dev that made that has already explained it. It's a bit tricky to know what search terms to use to find it now.
But long story short, he created it as part of a D&D map he made on a grid when he was a kid, then it kind of became his personal icon, and then when he became a dev, he found ways to drop it into the maps he worked on. And he gave a few examples. That's the one for TMA. His job for that map was follow-up clean up and adding furniture & clutter to the rooms so it doesn't look so empty after the bulk of it was done by the main mapper(s), and he made that hidden space while he was cluttering the place up and thought to drop his icon in as usual. Later the other devs were miffed that he went rogue and put a personal thing in the map, told him off, and in the next release they replaced it with a mechanist icon.
So that's the story. So as far as I remember, it looks like that because he was just trying to make an interesting looking map on grid paper, and I don't recall him mentioning that Judas Priest cross. But you know, maybe he did mention it and I don't recall, or maybe it was unconsciously in the back of his mind and came out when he was drawing the thing.
If you want to know more or the official word (I'm going off of very old memory here), his story is going to be in a post somewhere in this forum if you dig enough. It's just again hard to think of what search terms are going to help you find it.
Edit: Oh, I see Emerald Wolf already posted the link to it! Okay, cool, so I remembered it pretty well actually. Sorry I posted before going back through the posts carefully, but it's an interesting story anyway.
