hi guys,
I recently reinstalled Deus Ex to finish the game off (got about 70% through) and I patched up the latest mp/sp patch (1112?). This has loki's opengl dll etc, so I gave that a go.
Wow, opengl not only runs better on my geforce2, but I claim that it looks better, too. Except for those strange artefacts where everyone has flames pointing out of their guns and pink sunglasses.
So I dug around a bit and I found out how to fix it so that these artefacts go away!
You have to set "UseS3TC=1" in your opengl settings.
here are my opengl settings:
[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
Translucency=True
VolumetricLighting=True
ShinySurfaces=True
Coronas=True
HighDetailActors=True
DetailTextures=True
UseTNT=0
MinDepthBits=16
MaxLogUOverV=8
MaxLogVOverU=8
UseMultiTexture=1
UsePalette=1
UseAlphaPalette=0
ShareLists=0
AlwaysMipmap=0
DoPrecache=0
UseTrilinear=True
MaxAnisotropy=0
SupportsLazyTextures=0
UseS3TC=1
DescFlags=0
Description=
I'm running 1024x768 @ 32bpp with High details and detail textures. I DON'T use surround sound or EAX, as I couldn't tell the difference and I believe it gives me a performance boost.
anyway, here are some piccies to show it:
First run of opengl - damn wierd glitches!

16-bit

Had same problem, after installing the newest patch, it was gone. Only one thing bothers me: textures, that represent windows on distant skyscrapers in Hong Kong, look weird (like mirrors at Unatco HQ in nonpatched version). Is this common or is there a way to correct this? I'm runing 800*600@32bit.
For others that have problems tweaking Deus, there is a great Deus Ex Tweak guide at 3D Spotlight: (
