Anyone else notice that the kill switch doesn't work if you knock out an MiB with tranq darts.
The turrets attack when they're alerted, setting them to enemies puts them on alert(my guess). A turret doesn't need a camera to target or become alerted, alarm sounder panels and built in friend or foe targeting has that covered.
The inscrutable po on 9/6/2002 at 01:27
I think if you disable the camera, the turret will not target you. It just sits there til the camera is working again. That's why I think it needs the camera unless it's one of the turrets that is set off by an alarm panel. It somehow then knows how to find you.
Find a turret that is set off by cameras. Disable the camera and the turret won't bother you because it doesn't know you're there. So how does it know if you set it against enemies? In theory it can't see them with the camera off.

Um, enemies carry specially made(and custom fitted) butt plugs that give off specific radiation which makes it very easy for the turrets to discern where the enemies are, wheras JC does not have said butt plug.
Umm, yeah:rolleyes:

It's a fact that we really don't know how (a) the gun (b) the camera and (c) the hacking all work ... all we see is the interface.
Maybe "attack enemies" goes something like this:
"Attack nothing except the target matching [these criteria = JC]"
gets changed to
"Attack everything except ... "
The turret mechanism could be independent of the camera, but the camera talks to the turret after it sees you and the turret knows to shoot you. Maybe when the camera is off, the turret mechanism is still "on" but not yet activated.
Deiyen on 9/6/2002 at 02:45
Salvage, anything that knocks MiB's unconcious will not trigger the killswitch. For example, beating them unconcious with the baton. "If mortally wounded, the mechanism will activate and explode..." Unconciousness doesn't qualify as "mortally wounded."
ignatios, you're right that we don't know anything about how they work, but the way you describe, the camera needs to "talk" to the turret before it can fire at you. But if you turn the camera off, and set the turret to attack enemies, the turret still fires even if the camera doesn't "talk" to it. If both are independent of each other, then the turret should still fire at you if the camera is off, but the turret is untouched.

I wonder if philosophical debate could trigger the kill mechanism . . .
JC: Mr. MiB, your kill-switch is activated by mortal injury. Since all living thing eventually die, doesn't life itself constitute a mortal wound?
MiB: *ponders* *BOOM*
Deiyen on 9/6/2002 at 06:15
Lol, Singing Dancing Moose, that brings up a really good point. Do MiB's have lifespans? Every human dies at some point, I assume the same for any augmented human. Do MiB's get illnesses? What happens if they die from an illness? Do they explode? What if they just die from old age? Do MiB's even age? Lol, anyway, just pointless curiosities.
I also found out earlier. There's some information about Series P agents in the computers at Versalife. I couldn't type it all out though, 'cause hacking has a time limit, and it'd be too tedious for me to hack, wait, hack, wait, hack, etc. Someone could probably find it in files or something though. Versalife computers contain more information about Series P agents.

As far as I know, the thing between turrets and shooting is this:
A turret won't shoot at you until there has been an alarm. Stand in the cam, it will sound an alarm, the turret will start shooting. Turn off the cam, and it won't, unless something (or someone) else alarms.
Now, for the enemies it obviously goes different, there it doesn't need an alarm to start shooting... thinking about how JC manipulates them to do this, this sounds somehow possible, as Salvage said: He could set them to alarm as soon as he hacks them against enemies.
There just has to be a way to differ between JC and the soldiers, but this had to be there before, too... no idea how they'd do it, though... Transmitters with the soldiers, and JC is too stupid to pick one of them up? Voice recognition? (This would explain the talking of the soldiers, or whistling, or whatever) Constant farting? The possibilities are endless...

The Series P trials have so far produced excellent results, and I continue to believe that our physiopharmaceutical approach to agent augmentation to be superior to mechanical augmentation -- and possibly even equivalent to nanotech augmentation -- at a fraction of the cost and effort. The Series P agents show a marked lack of pain response with a corresponding increase in endurance and strength, while psychological conditioning has resulted in a Loyalty Estimate of 9.66 on the Yitzhak Scale.
The modified explosive self-termination switch added in Series N has also proven highly effective in eliminating all traces of the Series P in the event that they are mortally wounded or otherwise unable to complete their mission objectives.
We're continuing in our attempts to isolate the source of the albino traits, but so far the simple addition of sunglasses and dark clothing appear to have resolved the problem in a practical fashion.

Simons has requested that we equip some of the Series P agents with prototype Non-Eutactic Blades, prior to their mass production, so that additonal functional data can be generated. I've also been assured by Ms. Chow that the stolen NEB has been recovered from the Triads and our security procedures updated accordingly. Please let me know ASAP when the prototype NEBs can be distributed.
Let's grab some drinks tomorrow night. Anne's been bugging me to get out more often and with the kid on the way I might as take advantage of it before I'm up all night with the newborn.
Thanks,

I've distributed several to the Series P we've already got in the building -- I know that project is Arthur's baby, but those suits and sunglasses give me the creeps. Our second prototype run of NEBs was shipped to Simons for distribution this morning.
I still can't believe those gangsters managed to intercept the original one-off... I saw in the papers that they're going to use it to resolve some kind of gang war -- they've taken to calling it the "Dragon's Tooth." Can't wait to rotate out of this place and back to the States.
Drinks sound good. See ya tomorrow.

Yeah, now that I think about it, that doesn't make much sense. Oh well. It's a game. :)
