the ones in Cardiff seem to think traffic lights don't apply to them, even when pedestrians are crossing
Yes, they do, don't they. Though I think it's pretty common all over the country (world). It pisses me off because you know they'll be the same ones who cry about cars not giving them enough room/whatever

Cyclists round here on one road seem to prefer slowing down traffic and forcing people to overtake in dense traffic when there is a very expensive cycle path for them to use about a foot to their left. It's not exactly hard to find...
Is the expensive cylcle path located on the pavement? Hmm, that could be the problem. Ignoring the argument that pavements are for pedestrians (old people, for example, feel particularly vulnerable with high speed traffic hurtling at them) and that pavement's are wholly crap and inappropriate places to cycle at anything over get off and walk pace...

If I had a penny for every time cars slow me down and get in the way of, like, everybody... Me thinks road users could be a little more accomodating of each other, yes?

In Germany, the highway code says, in general, if you're turning you have to yield to those who don't. For example, if I cross the street as a pedestrian, I have to wait for traffic from left and right, but any car going in my direction will have to stop, when it turns into my path. This is usually observed, although BMW drivers will try to scare you into submission by braking late. ;)
Is this the same anywhere else in the world? My experience in England is that pedestrians need eyes in their backs before stepping onto the street. Boston was quite the opposite. Drivers there would rather stop once too often than cut pedestrians off.

It's the same here in theory, but you wouldn't want to rely on it. We're not a nation of considerate drivers.

Signaling your intention to change lanes is kind of useless where I live, as 90% of the time it just causes other drivers to close the gaps in order to maintain their positions in traffic.

Cyclists seem to have two problems- first they often act as if they wouldn't come off worse in an accident between them and a car/van and second they don't seem to realise they could seriously injure, or even kill a pedestrian if they collided with one.
The particular road I'm thinking of is full of terrible drivers as well.

No, it is a highly genuine cycle path. I know from experience that pavements are no good, but in this case it's very suitable for cycling on, next to a busy main road.

Roundabouts are too complicated for Americans. That's why they use four-ways for everything.
American: "Eh? Round about? Uh-oh, which way do I go? Left or right? Left or right?! Fuck, I'll just drive through the center."
Seriously, I've seen it

When I was last in England I realised how fucking bad you have it. People lol driving in the middle of the fucking road WHAT.
