DXHR was a huge let-down for me.
I finished my first playthrough last week and I can't say, I want a second one. The decisions you make during the game, seem to have no impact at all - it's not like in DX where people seemed to actually react on how you played the game. The game world is WAY to static to be fun - shit where are cleaning bots, pigeons and all that stuff? OK there is one in Jensens office - but it ain't doing anything. Pretty crappy for a AAA title.
The game felt cheap and repetetive, much like Bioshock in some ways. Hacking is a chore. The "press button" ending is a joke. The available augments are uninspired and dull (no recoil? oh really? cheerio! never would have imaginated that could be done:idea:)
While playing DX I always hoped, that the game would go on. I was sad when I completed it, cause it felt so cool. In DXHR I was glad when I pressed the button and the "work" was done. Ain't going through that one again - for sure.
i actually liked the hacking game. its one of the few things that i regard beeing an improvement over dx. the cleaner-bots were pretty cute, loved to smash 'em.

I am seriously disappointed that I have to start the whole game over again. I don't know if it's because I didn't take enough time developing my augments and stocking up on ammo & experience, or if it's because the game kind of felt like it was rushing me from point to point without giving me that time I needed. Regardless, I was woefully unprepared for the battle with the first boss. :( Srsly.
Unfortunately I can't say that this game is really 'grabbing' me, for instance, the same way the Stalker games did. Even though the Stalker games were seriously bug-ridden, I gladly reinstalled each game (after multiple freezes & crashes) more than a few times just to be able to play them. But with DE:HR I find I'm not looking forward to this simple restart at all. But I really do want to play this bitch. Go figure.
Maybe I'm just cranky 'cuz I have a nasty cold.

I've just got DX:HR, and am having fun with it. Although I'm with Dia in that the AI seem to be way more sensitive to seeing you than in the original DX. I was a bit disappointed too with the hand-holding that occurred, but a quick trip to the game settings turned most of it off. I'm now trying to work out how to stun or avoid lots of guards - something playing Thief should have prepared me for, but I'm finding quite tricky.

Use the stun gun - it stuns him for some time, allows you to shoot him or run around and get weapons or ammo.
Or, if you absolutely don't have anything ... try this:

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they specifically put the barrels in just on the off-chance some hacky stealth type didn't at least work on combat skills a bit.
It took me about 10 tries to get him, personally, and I wasn't happy about it.
Meanwhile, I had to fight Namir with my interface screwed up on me and it took me all of 2 tries. I think the main thing is there's more cover in the latter case (and I don't mean just stuff to hide behind, I mean it's pretty much a little MGS-style maze.) That and I'd put a headshot mod on my assault rifle.
Federova I just Typhooned the shit out of. Problem solved.

Whoa. DANG!!! I gotta try that! Thanks Malleus! At least it gives me a little more hope than I had the first time around. This time I've tried to conserve on ammo & kept the PEP gun I found; not a lot of ammo for that though it sure packs a wallop. But I didn't notice the first time around that there were exploadable barrels & cylinders. And damned if I can get that typhoon thingy augment to work properly. :p
I'm just entering the factory now (well, for the 2nd time in 24 hours) & since I try to use the stealth approach with most of the bad guys, it takes me a loooonnnnggg time to get anywhere. Besides, I
REALLY LIKE ripping into the baddies with those Wolverine-type blades!
I really suck at strategies, though.
:(
Thanks dethy; now I have headshot mod envy.
P.S. 'Energy cells' are mentioned in the augments sections but dang if I could find any. Seems like in the two previous DE's they were easier to come by. Or am I just being dense again?
Be kind.

You recharge energy with candy bars. Energy cells refer to your energy store; the two little batteries, of which you need one full to perform a takedown. You can augment yourself to get more, but they're not really that useful.
june gloom on 14/9/2011 at 01:42
You charge up your energy cells through things like candy bars (which give you one cell back, unless you find a boxful of them) and those big white jars with the red lids (which give you a lot.)
Do yourself a favour and bump up the recharge speed- it'll make waiting for that one last cell that automatically recharges a little more tolerable when you're out of energy bits.
[edit] Oh, ninja'd. This Gray Death will be the end of me. :(
Dia on 14/9/2011 at 01:51
Thanks guys. I was goin' crazy looking for 'energy cells'. I'd noticed that the white jars with red tops seemed to last pretty long in giving me more energy, but I kept thinking that maybe there was someplace where I could actually plug in & recharge on my own. :cheeky:
Live & learn.
You should've seen me running around the surgical room at the augment place, trying to get one of the machines to interact & charge me up. ;)
(Actually, it's probably for the best that no one witnessed that.)
