If all of you are unsatisifed with the prequel, does that mean that TTLG's Deus Ex fans are prepared to do their own prequel? I know that 2027 is on it's way, but if you wanted to do a prequel that thoroughly explored the preceding events of Deus Ex, from the rise of Mechanical Augementation to the birth of the NSF and Majestic 12, would that be something that you'd want to do?

More importantly, would anyone care?

Yeah I'd be up for it, particularly if we get the modding tools for HR.

Try scrolling up. To the post immediately preceding mine. You might find your answer there.
My question was rhetorical. Should I post a pretty picture of a plane?
OK. I'll stop assuming that people are willing to act like they're intelligent and I'll explain things like I do with an 8 years old.
To answer your question, no, I do not directly hate a game because other people love it. BUT... an object can be indirectly associated with something else and if I dislike strongly that other thing then I will dislike hearing about the object because it will indirectly remind me of the other thing I dislike.
I found Oblivion to be a completely uninteresting game. I found it to be dumb, unchallenging and empty. Yet, almost every critics rated this game very highly. To make you understand the implication this fact has on me, imagine you wake up tomorrow in a world where almost every media in the world are saying that George W. Bush was one of the greatest mind ever born. Imagine almost every media saying over and over that W. was a greater scientist than Einstein, a greater philosopher than Plato, a greater military strategist than Sun Tzu, etc... Worse, imagine that an awful number of people around you repeat those claims without really thinking about it. How will you react to that? Maybe you will despise the whole society, but I'm a big pussy and I don't like the idea of despising the whole society. So the result is I will come to hate George W. Bush not because I think he's a moron, but because he will indirectly remind me that the whole society suck.
The thing is I believe people can be intelligent if given the chance, but I also believe that their gregarious nature will make them stupidly follow the flow first. I think that way in part because of my experience with board games. I love board games and I'm always bringing the idea to play one when I'm with people. Of course, their idea of board game is Monopoly or Risk, and they don't hesitate to say those are good games. After all, they are popular, that's what you find in every store, so they can't be bad, right?. Well... They're not good games. They are dumb and boring. So what I do is show a few board games which are not as dumb and, guess what, most people love those games. After that, they view Monopoly and Risk for what they truly are : dumb and boring games.
Oblivion is a dumb and boring game. But I think that, because of hype, a lot of people end up believing it is a good game. I believe people don't try to think for themselves, they just stupidly follow the trend. That's human nature. That's something I don't like about human nature. And that's what Oblivion remind me of.
So... Do you understand now why I said that hype can transform indifference into hate? Do you understand why I "hate" Oblivion?

i absolutely share your view on people following the opinion of the majority. in case of dxhr the overrating which is taking place since its release, well, it sort of amplified my negative feelings which i had regarding the game itsself. it all started with me beeing just a little dissappointed with some details missing... but when i saw how people cheered dxhr up to be goty or even equivalent to the original dx -dude, this really annoyed me! i had to force myself to actually finish the game. i don't see anything special about this game except the strange coloring which reminds me of some kind of grimy urinal.
it's a problem of attitude most people have - they prefer to parrot the sayings of the majority instead of telling their real views. additionally they can't admit that criticism is, to a certain point, valid - they even fight the few remaining participants, which dare to talk against the mob. i think this kind of behaviour is getting more common day by day. ttlg formerly was a place for people who knew their games and appreciated the old classics. its to some degree sad to see that this hardcore boards are getting undermined by zeitgeist.

Do you guys want a snifter of brandy to go with those smoking jackets? Jeez.
I mean just listen to yourselves. You're basically saying you're smarter than everyone else because they only go for what's popular. You make criticisms of people who shout down anyone with a dissenting opinion, but you do the exact same thing here where your opinion isn't that much of a minority. Next you'll be saying you liked Modest Mouse before they were cool and wearing lensless glasses and skinny jeans. It's embarrassing. Stop before you hurt yourselves.

That's okay, I don't either.
