hello! i would like to play system shock 2 under the default weapon degradetion rate, and from what i read, it seems the official patch and SS2 tools will change/lower the rate of weps degration substantially or even nullify it alltogther (i didn't see such options in the main menu or the options menu) so basically, i want to play the game with default degration rate! (・∀・ )
by the way, i have already applied the above two patches and the game, for some strange reason, as well as the music and especially the indeo codec movies all plays flawlessly without any problems or needing to be encoded at all. I SUSPECT THAT IT WAS DUE TO A NEWER INDEO CODEC i installed years ago which is compatible with vista ( ´∀`)

The official patch (which is included in SS2Tool) only introduces the ability to change the gun degradation rate; it does not change it from its original settings.

so was the gun degradation rate lowered with the patches?
i can't see any options to change it...

As I just said, the patch only introduced the
ability to change the degradation rate it
does not change it for you.
To find out how to modify this setting and others, read the (
http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php?topic=12.0) official patch readme.
But you said you don't want to change it, so all you need to do is install the patches and play the game. The original degradation rate will
never change unless you change it yourself.

ohhhhhhhhhh i see
thanks so much for that information!
sorry i misunderstood that part and thank you so much kind sir! i thought the game and the patch lowered the difficulty without my consent and i tried looking for ways to change it back in the menu but couldn't find a conventional way of restoring it back to "default"
thank you so much for the help and putting my mind at ease! thanks mate!
onto a different topic, i bought my copy at a local retail as an opened merchandise for 11 pounds ( around 20 usd i think) back in 2004, somehow over the years i felt as if i've been ripped off, so what do you guys think? was my copy overpriced? even though it was opened box, the disc was in mint condition so it could of been some laddy who took it home and installed it before bringing it back for a refund.
i couldn't find another copy anywhere else though
(

i wonder if they'll have new stock soon, there doesn't seem to be a re-release verison either, i wondered why there wan't a re-print since the game sold so well? (meh the original SS got re-print, and i had 2 copies of thief metal age, and lets not forget deus ex even though it was by eidos and the reprints only stopped 3 years back and there's still a healthy number of budget priced copies around)
its a shame i couldn't shop online back in the day with my 56k, i wonder if them'll have new stock soon, i am a frequent shopper on ebay and i can honestly say i've received bootlags and mint condition cds and vinyls that looks like somebody ran it over with their car on purpose!:tsktsk:

No way, $20 is a great price for SS2. The only was you'll ever get it for less is if you're extremely lucky and find it in a bargain bin somewhere, or if it turns up on Steam or GoG.
Of course, if the latter happens, snatch it up quick, because the world will probably end that day, too. :erg:

Yeah. Lesson learned; never buy CDs or DVDs from eBay. I did that once and received a bootleg Haruhi. Bad idea.

I never had any bad experience buying stuff from eBay. I've bought, for example, two I.C.E. Breaker guides that have arrived in perfect condition, one of them even containing the separate maps, a brand new SS2 box, still wrapped, a System Shock CD with all documentation included, all in mint condition, and recently I got both Phantasmagoria and Gabriel Knight: Sins Of The Fathers, also brand new. All you need to do is to carefully pick your sellers. No matter how good the deal looks, if the seller doesn't have a good enough rating, I stay away from it.
Enchantermon on 31/5/2010 at 01:51
Well, yeah, I'm not saying that no one on eBay is legit, just that I prefer to steer clear of it. But checking the ratings is always a good idea no matter where you are.

hmmm, is it just me or are the dead bodies actually aren't disappearing after the game's been patched?
because i recall bodies disappearing right away when i first played it out of the box unpatched wayyyyy back in 2004, or it is just me?
sorry i'm just very very curious to know if i've memorized it wrong :p
for ebay i'm getting atleast 2 horrible conditioned and bottlegs for every 4-5 disc i receives, last week, for 3vinyl records i ordered 2 of them were in horrific condition as in scratched and with coffee mug circle mark all over it.
Enchantermon on 1/6/2010 at 02:41
The bodies in the patched version will only (for the most part) disappear when you're not looking at them.
