Dammit! I have no fighting skills at all. Starting TES Oblivion I discovered I'd played and replayed Thief for too long :D
I can't fight, and am not actually much fond of it... So I was wondering.... Is it possible avoiding it? I'm not talking of paying off, of course :)

Try a ranged or magic-based character?

I was curious more about sneaking and hiding :)
But magic does it as well! I wonder like would it be possible to end the whole game without fighting, for I'm toooooo bad at fighting - only good at shooting..

Hmm, I'm not sure, to be honest. You should definitely join the Thieves Guild, though I guess that goes without saying.

Thinking back, there may be a couple of times that you have to fight in order to prevent assassinations etc.
You may want to look into acquiring spells or equipment that impose paralysation, burdening or fatigue-stealing effects on your opponents. Easier to cut 'em up if they can't move. :p

Or you could just try lowering the difficulty slider.

Astrological abilities really help to get you out of a tight spot when you're weak at the start of the game. The Lover's Kiss paralyses opponents, and The Shadow gives you invisibility so you can make your escape, two of my favourites. You could also try becoming a vampire...great combat bonuses, although not being able to do much in the day is a pain. As time goes on you could also try developing your character's Speed ability, it really helps to dodge and manoeuvre in 1v1 combat and with avoiding spells.

If you really want to get good at fighting, try the Arena. I did all the Arena quests from start to finish and by the end I was an expert fighter in Oblivion.
You don't actually have to fight much at all during the mainquest. You can definitely sneak/leg it through the Oblivion levels. But like Matthew said, I think the only times you're forced to fight are assassination attempts by the Mythic Dawn. But I suppose you could... run to the nearest guard?

If you chose the standard thief option that they give you, you are pretty much fucked for fighting, IIRC. You only get Ranged as your only fighting skill and that's...well, it's pretty much shit as a Thief. Not that you can't kill some things with it, but you really want the extra blade skill to get the most out of the 6x sneak damage multiplier.
Your best bet is buying enchanted swords or playing through the Dark Brotherhood quests. You find out that stabbing somebody in the back is sometimes not the best option.
