Comment: Was wished a Happy Hanukkah as I left the store. When I stopped and explained I was Christian, the lady at the counter told me 'Happy Holidays!' This was very offensive!

Heh. :D God, I wish someone would go up to all of those petulant cry-babies and give them a big, rubber-hand slap in the style of those '90s Tango ads. It'd serve them right and confuse the hell out of 'em.
Quite honestly, if your faith is majorly offended by people saying "Happy holidays!", you should consider getting a better, more stable faith.
BTW, Starrfall: I like! :D

I'm sure someone will eventually point out that Jesus wasn't even born in December, but rather in September, either the 22nd or 23rd
I thought he was supposedly born in the spring, what with the shepherds being out in the field with their flock and stuff?

2nded.
I am a Christian, and I can't stand 90% of them. I do my best to follow the spirit of the law and not confuse it with what is widely interpreted to be the "letter of the law", which I find to be wrong in most cases anyway. I really do try hard not to be a douchebag.
And these guys don't seem to be doing a very good job of it.
EDIT: oh... there is 2 pages. I was replying to enchantermon

Oddly enough, though, some of the shops seem to be as offensive as they're trying not to be. For example, GAP's talking about the "winter solstice", correctly identified as a pagan celebration.
Because acknowledging a silly set of pagan superstitions is patently
offensive to those who celebrate silly christian superstitions?
Anyone to whom this is offensive needs a mental enema.

Nope.
Honestly, I don't really see why Christians get so worked up about this, especially since, as has been stated, Jesus wasn't even born on the 25th of December. Christmas is just the day that we use to celebrate his birth (unless you're an Orthodox Christian). Those who couldn't care less about Jesus celebrate it for the holiday spirit and Santa Clause and ho-ho-ho and mistletoe and presents to pretty girls. They don't care what it's called.
For Christians, the word "Christmas" has a special meaning because of the reason we celebrate the holiday. For those who don't believe in Jesus, "Christmas" is just a name that is easily exchangable for whatever else they want to call it.
The day means different things to different people. At the end of the day, names are irrelevant.

Granting that for me Christian beliefs are neither silly nor superstitions, I don't get this, either.
