First off, you on X-Box or PC? :) If it's the former, I don't think there's anything that can be done, other than an exhaustive search of anywhere and everywhere you might have left it....if you're on PC it's fairly easy to "summon" a copy of the item using the console.....basically, you need to look in the Editor to find the Heart of Fire's object ID, then; press the tilde key in-game to activate the console, and type in;

placeatpc "object ID" 1,1,1

This should drop a copy of the thingummyjig right at your feet.
