I'll end up seeing this when I can. However, After reading the actual "I am Legend" story I don't think any movie could compare to it.

The original setting and routine made the book so bleak. Rumour has it that the vampiric element is not in this film which, if you think about it, would remove alot of Neville's drive and routine.
I don't want to spoil it (and please not spoilers in this thread) but one thing that gives me hope for this film is that the title is the original title and if yo read the book you'll know that this is (potentially) quite important.
Also - to repeat myself (I said this in Gen Gaming at some point); the premise of the book would make an awesome survival horror game.

I don't know how it can end the same without the nightwalkers. Maybe it will have a feelgood Hollywood ending. Wont that be special? But hey, I will be the first-okay second- to admit Will Smith did an excellent job in I Robot and totally changed my mental image of the books protagonist.
I can't help but be pleasantly surprised that so many seem to know about the original story. When I mentioned it in the original 28 days later thread nobody acknowledged it so I had no idea people knew of it. It's not like the networks have put Omega Man on the tube in thirty years. And too you folks are mostly young and to think you would read an old novel and all just, well, kind of makes me proud. Pardon me while I wipe a tear and cut an old fart.

2/3 of a good movie.

I personally can't get past the fact that Will Smith wasn't content on pissing on I, Robot and went to probably fuck up other classic genre books.
You realize that Will Smith neither wrote or directed either "I, Robot" or "I Am Legend" don't you? And that the screenplay for "I, Robot" originally was a robot murder mystery that had no connection whatsoever to Asimov's book and it was the studio's decision to have the screenplay re-titled and re-written to include the Three Laws and change some of the character names after they realized that they had the film rights for "I, Robot," yes?

Yes, I'm very well aware of that. Whether or not he actually wrote it, he did have an impact on the final version, don't you think?

This part I didn't actually know, I doesn't surprise me in the least.

Not to the degree you seem to think he did, no.

Good. That makes me look forward to it a bit more.
As for the survival horror game, I think it would be interesting but seeing how much repetition Neville put himself through in the game I'd worry it'd become dull after a few hours of play. Some parts of it would be pretty awesome though.

From what I've heard the movie starts really well but goes into standard sci-fi action bullocks by the end. I still may check it out though.
Has anyone here seen the New Zealand film 'The Quite Earth'? It's another variation on the 'last man on earth' theme and is quite good.

That may or may not be the case. The stuff I disliked the most in the movie was the previously mentioned "Hell Naw" factor that seems to be standard for Will Smith movies. As for other things that pissed me off in the movie, I'm sure he had nothing to do with them.
