Yeah, I'll fucking bet they do.

The orignal novella was the best vampire book I've ever read. The only other one was Dracula but still. Scots you have to read it. It is very much as you described and, as fantastical as the concept, nevertheless draws you in with the protagonists daily struggle and attempts to understand and cope with a world so changed it is preposterous. Very metaphorical though you don't realize that until the end because you are caught up in the action.
I do agree that Mathesons other work is below even Bloch but this one is worth the read. True, my view is colored somewhat by having read it as a teen, but I think it has a touch of brilliance in actually placing one in the horror of social upheaval. You can feel what it means to be a total outsider. But you read it and decide for yourself.
The movie, either one, missed the best of the story as if they couldn't understand this.

I absolutely hate the alternate ending. Its total ass. If that ending had been in there, I`d have walked out of the theatre.
The ending in the movie is way better. Fits the overall storyline of the movie much better.

You have a name like van HellSing and yet still have the balls to cut me for something I read back when I was a kid? Damn. And it is obvious you didn't understand a damn thing I said too. Oh well. Follow the leader, it's so cutting edge.

You kind of failed to get the point. I'm not suggesting either I Am Legend (which I haven't read, hope it gets published here as a tie-in to the movie) or Dracula are bad books, I'm just pointing out how ridiculous your statement reads.

As opposed to everyone else who whould have remained there after the film had finished? :p

Hang around. You will see worse liberties taken with the language. Sorry I misunderstood you by paying attention to what you actually said rather than the way you said it which is the exact opposite of what you did with my prose.

I highly doubt that. If that ending had been in there, then the entire movie would have made no sense at all. His entire reason for being there was to develop a cure for the human race. If he had just givin up like that, then thats him effectively saying "meh ok be zombies/vampires forever I dont care anymore". Fuck that. Especially considering how much he craved human interaction.
Plus as if anyone would just give up, if they were put in that actual situation. Specially after just discovering the cure. They`d far more likely develop a tranquilizer dart style solution then start shooting all the infected people with it or something similar.

Yeah, cos God forbid the film be bigger than Will Smith's superman character, and actually about how the world has changed and he's the one who's trailing behind the rest of zombiekind. The whole notion that the human race has been replaced by zombiekind and that they have their own internal schemas of a primal civilisation is a far more intriguing notion than "I made a serum now everyone's okay".
That is, unless they would actually further that to deal with the psychological torment that the entire human race has been put through by entering a primitive state of mind and having killed/infected dozens of their own people.
I don't have that much faith in Hollywood.
