First off - there is no need to quote someone directly above you in the thread.
Second - no it's not. It's just as vapid and arguably worse in that it's purporting to be somehow deeper than the other lame ending. And it isn't. They all suck because the idiots that made this dross missed the whole point.

Far, far superior ending than the original.

Someone explain to me how it's any better plz

In the context of the movie (because I've never read the book), I was hoping for something more than "the zombies are really just an unstoppable force of evil and poor old Neville does the ole Jesus Christ sacrifice to save the last vestiges of mankind" and was indeed hoping and praying that the story would be turned on its head and the "I Am Legend" was referring to Will Smith being this legendary HORROR to Zombiekind, this mythical fuck who comes tearing out during the daylight and persecuting zombies, murdering them, torturing them, like some Vlad the Impaler figure of fear.
So, when they show up at his lab at the end, originally I was secretly hoping that it was pack-intelligence-loyalty for the stolen female zombie and that was all they wanted. They do this in this ending, plus a nice little sideways glance at his board of dead zombies is almost like the holocaust entry being paved with tombstones of the dead. He is this horrific figure in Zombie history. He is legend.
Imagine if the world continues to be dominated by the disease and THEY ARE EARTH. It's no longer Will's Earth, it's theirs and he becomes a mythical monster to this race.
Sure, it doesn't exactly go all the way over into that specific ending, but it sure does do something to redeem the utter worthlessness of the original ending which was just so horrifically cliched and ugly.

So wait what you never read the book but you know the plot, and by mean know I mean properly know? Ok. And this ending is better because it hints at what could have been? It's no even that suggestive. Unless you know the book's plot it could just be "it's the tough guy's bird and he'll beats on them if they don't get her back". And what's with the butterfly crap? And why even need the zombie woman to respond to the experimental drug at all? Bah.
Well it sounds like it panned out the way you wished during your initial viewing. I was hoping for more too but neither the official release nor this go anywhere imo. I just don't see why they couldn't use the original plot.

I don't know much about the book though I do know the "point" behind the title, if that's what you mean. I'm finding it hard to understand the rest of your post.
Regardless, the movie is still high caliber shit of the utmost Hollywood mold - this ending still doesn't provide a satisfactory resolution, but you couldn't, because the movie was an abortive mess.
The butterfly is more retarded shit that the movie loves to pull out of its ass, it's a reference to his daughter.

The original novella happens to be shit as well, so it all works out nicely.

Sci-fi masterworks begs to differ.
