In my experience, it's not an uncommon technique. I've seen that kind of thing enough to recognise it, so I wasn't confused. I knew it was the mannequin "Fred", that it was moved to that location, and the neck flexed when the head turned. None of the Dark Seekers could fill in or puppet the head. I didn't allow myself to jump to any conclusions until I could see where the movie was going with the "Fred" element.

In my opinion it is not only the best sci-fi movie,
but also the only one that is actually any good.
This is an insane thing to say and I want you to take it back now

I like sci-fi lots Ig, but I just cannot think of any other sci-fi film that is anywhere near as good. I like a lot of sci-fi films, but I feel that it's because I am a sci-fi fan and not because they are good films.
The only other sci-fi that comes close to BR, imho, is Alien and even then the Alien growing so big, so fast without any identifiable food source mars it for me. There are a lot of good ideas out there but the execution always seems that little bit poor.
Take Event Horizon for example; I know that many people laud this a great sci-fi horror but imo it started well, became dull and ended terribly. The cheese de la creme de la gorgonzola special at the end didn't help it any either. See de bones! Tis always de same! I know ye com from de holy mountain...

Terminator 2
Perhaps too pithy a reply but there really are plenty of other good films that are also sci-fi films! The Matrix, Code 46, Donnie Darko, Serenity, Star Wars, Star Trek First Contact, The Fountain,Sunshine, etc etc etc

T2 better than Alien? Ha ha. This is a wind up. Very funny. T1 was better for starters. It is a wind up, right?
The Matrix suffers from the most embarrassing and juvenile script and "love" plot (though is very good otherwise). Serenity was ok, but then I never watched the series, Star Wars is just fun, classic but not really, if we're being honest here, a good film, the only Trek film I've seen that I really liked was the first one (haven't seen them all), haven't seen the other films you mention though The Fountain is on my list, Sunshine looks naff and I've never heard of Code 46.
Donnie Darko is pretty solid tbh, but then I don't know if I'd class it a strictly sci-fi.

I think you're confusing 'good' with 'masterpiece'. If you're actually claiming that either of the Terminator movies aren't good, you need to reconsider your criteria.

T1 is great. T2 is okay but at the time I think we were all a bit wowed by by the technology. The T2 was very good in bringing back that "unstoppable evil" quality that Arnie had in the original (and the Agents have in Matrix 1) but other than that, in retrospect, it was so-so.

Event Horizon is an appalling shitstain of a film, beloved only by connoisseurs of appalling shitstain cinema.
Having said that, you really need to start judging these sci-fi films by
what they are trying to accomplish.

I do Stitch, which is why I enjoy so many of them. At the same time I recognise that in achieving that goal they fail in other areas. Why can they not aspire to be both good sci-fi AND good films?
I know what they were trying to achieve with this new I Am Legend, and it was a money making mediocrity. It worked. But it could have been so much more.
Take The Matrix - give it a good script-writer, ditch the "He must be the one because I love him I met him yesterday" silliness and bingo you'd have a superior film. It's not even that the whole script is bad, but some of it is SO bad I cringe watching it because it makes me feel embarrassed to like it. Sadder still was the potential for making the Next Big sci-fi trilogy with this - oops, failure.
I'm doomed to be forever disappointed. I guess I'll go watch AvP:Requiem this weekend after all, and just make myself like it.
