Man, am I pissed. So I rarely read the newspaper, and I was reminded why again this morning. The cover story was, of course, Saddam's hanging - but it was a sham. Usually the newspaper - partially in the interest of being impartial and partially in the interest of being spineless - portrays all the sides of an issue, no matter how stupid some sides are.
But this article was just shocking. Much of it was taken up by a picture of a man celebrating as he heard the verdict, which is consistent of the slant of the rest of the article. Now, if they don't want to talk about how the trial was a sham and just report the facts (saddam sentence to hanging) I guess I'll buy that, but they didn't, they just had interviews with people saying how happy they were and making it seem like it was some miracle. Even hear on TTLG, the supporters admit the trial was a sham and it should not be treated as if it was a legal event (which is how the article was written).
The Seattle PI - the most 'liberal' paper in Seattle, one of the most 'liberal' cities in the country - quoted Bush saying that it was a "big step for democracy" or whatever, and just let that stand. I feel sick.

Don't let it get you down too much Aero; Bush is going to find out tomorrow what a "big step for democracy" really feels like :)
Though I admit, it does make me sick to hear that evil twat bleating on about democracy after the manner in which he stole that election in Florida.

Will you be terribly disappointed and/or shocked if the Democrats fail to make significant gains in the elections? I haven't been paying full attention, but I think you may be underestimating the support the Republican party has in some parts of the country. A good portion of Americans may actually like the way business is being done these days.

True enough.
I'm surprised that people are surprised at the one-sidedness of news reports. The only person I know of who's pro-Saddam is Fred Phelps. Think you can find a news story on Phelps that isn't one-sided? Fat chance, and he hasn't actually murdered anyone, just been an insufferable prick.
A comment above reminds me of H. L. Mencken's statement that "The people get the government they deserve and get it good and hard". The only person I can think of off the top of my head who has (
http://www.vdare.com/sailer/061105_iraq.htm) echoed such sentiments with regards to Iraq is Steve Sailer although (

Speaking of hanging...
WHY do they have to hang Saddam? Is there a reason they can't just execute him by lethal injection or firing squad or something that isn't?
A firing squad is typically regarded as a soldier's death, whereas hanging was used for the death penalty for common criminals for many years. Lethal injection gives a sense of death without pain; pain being something people do not care about in war criminal cases usually. A rope and wooden platform is cheaper than 4 separate drugs in any case.

What the hell. I remember in grade school, they always reiterated time and time again that "he hit me first" was not an excuse. Then I grow up and everyone says it is. What's the deal?
They also screwed up the food chain and the age of the universe. EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG.

I just checked, and I'm pretty sure I'm not. Still, when they execute me, it'd be cool to be hanged because your eyes do that cool popping out thing.
