The fact that he was given any due process when he denied so many others the opportunity is a luxury in and of itself.
Seconded.

Presumption of innocence? Or does he not qualify for human rights?
Dia on 5/11/2006 at 12:50
The same human rights he granted his victims.

Hmm, no. Due Process is not a luxury, regardless of what he did. It applies to everyone. If we're claiming to be the "good guys" and better than all the dictators and fanatics out there, then we have to hold ourselves to certain standards.

I don't justify Saddam Hussein's activity as an Iraqi leader, but i do respect his behaviour as a lawyer in this court.
In Russia such trials are called 'booked' or 'engaged', this means everything was decided beforehand. Most lawyers don't fight and play extra waiting for an expected verdict.
I was astonished both at courts impotence to be convincing and Saddam Hussein's stand. He fought knowing what the verdict will be, sometimes it makes an unnecessary delay of legal act, but here it was worthy of respect.
BTW I've seen a poor dramatization of his capture on 'Discovery Channel'. Anyone else?

Its a fast faded glimpse of war justification. A poor excuse for going into the country in the first place.

enforcing the death sentence is a sure sign of bringing enlightenment and democracy to a troubled nation, and there is no way that this could martyr Saddam and cement the resolve of his remaining supporters any more

You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". But I say to you, do not resist an evildoer. If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
HELLO GEORGE BUSH ARE YOU ACTUALLY A CHRISTIAN
LOL :nono:

Was that meant for me? Saddam is much more deserving. He got more of a trial than his victims, you should check out ogrish and other sites that have some footage of his executions-hanging is pretty 'nice' in comparison.
