The latest HIB looks pretty good! At least I only have one of these games (Sir) previously.

PWYW:
Sir, You Are Being Hunted
QUBE
Goodbye Deponia
BTA:
Skullgirls
Planetary Annihilation
Xenonauts
$10:
Gang Beasts
So has anyone played QUBE, Planetary Annihilation, Xenonauts, or Gang Beasts? What did you think of them? I wouldn't mind forking out $10 for Gang Beasts even if it's just for the singleplayer bot matches, tho I'm still hoping for online MP at some point.

Planetary Annihilation is decent, but expect to spend a lot of time getting to understand it. Mostly due to the spherical nature of the planets along with the potential for multiple planets per system (ie. map). It might be the next logical step up from Supreme Commander/Total Annihilation in scale, but everyone has the exact same units and buildings at their disposal so it does feel like something is missing.

Yeah, there's definitely something missing from PA. Couldn't hold my attention. The AI also seemed quite broken.
Xenonauts is pretty good, and I can see why people would love it, but it just didn't gel with me. I found myself getting bored. And it's a little too desperate and grimdark. I'm also really fussy about turn-based combat, and Xenonauts' implementation just felt lacking.
I keep meaning to spend more time with "Sir", but never seem to get around to it. What I have played seems quite promising.

I might actually skip this. I think QUBE is the only thing that appeals, in practice. I have Sir, You Are Being Hunted; I know I won't play Goodbye Deponia; I couldn't tell WTF was happening in the Skullgirls trailer; I don't think I can be bothered with Planetary Annihilation; I have Xenonauts; and I really want Gang Beasts but it's ^&$#&* Steam-only (in a proper HIB no less -- their standards are slipping, as I'm positive they've stated in the past that they would stick to their original DRM-free guns for HIB bundles).

Not sure if the multiplayer mode is still in beta (have you played it?), but I'd definitely be up for some
SYABH coop at some point.

I couldn't tell WTF was happening in the Skullgirls trailer;
It's a 2D fighting game, like the older Street Fighter games, with some very unique character designs. It's good if you're interested in fighting games, otherwise it probably won't convince you to stick with the genre.

I'm only interested in this for Xenonauts, and maybe SYABH. How does Xenonauts compare if you're sort of enthralled by the new XCOM?
Malf on 30/9/2015 at 22:08
There's more freedom in character development, no class constraints, the tech tree feels more fleshed out with more interesting options, but there's definitely less "pizazz!"
And your soldiers all look like right mopey bastards.
The 2D also suffers from some difficult viewing angles and an opacity in identifying what is or isn't a valid route.
And I hate to say it, as I thought a lot of XCOM's maps were verging on being too small and fast, but ones in Xenonauts can frequently drag on well past their welcome.

Fair enough. Sounds worth a punt, at least, and henke sent his keys for both my way. Thanks, henkester! :thumb:

No prob, and thanks for the Broken Age key in return. Tho right afterwards I noticed that Broken Age will be in this month's PS+ as well. :p
