It won't run very well with that spec... :( But it will run fairly well when you upgrade that Graphics Card... :)

i got the no-cd version 1.2.0.722 patch from gamescopyworld.com, extracted it to my morrowind directory. and with the morrowind cd inside my cd-rom i got an error message saying it can't morrowind.bik file.

Hey, I just noticed there was a Morrowind forum at TTLG (been using it only for Thief ;)) .. I've been playing it for a bit, but the performance seems to be rather sluggish. Originally (when it was set at the highest resolution possible) it was really bad, but now that I've taken it down to 800x600 it hasn't been as bad. I was just wondering if there are other hints or tips for increasing fps/gameplay speed. My friend, who admittedly knows more about games and video cards than me, told me it shouldn't be that sluggish.. And because I respect his knowledge in the area, I wonder if there isn't something I can do to improve gameplay. I just recently got a new computer: 1.8 Ghz, 512 MB SDRAM, 80 GB hard drive, nVidia TNT2 M64 graphics card with 32 MB SDRAM, etc. etc. Based on that, how well should the game play? I've been using the No CD path for a while now (don't remember why I originally got it, but I did), and I updated my drivers by downloading Detonator XP at nVidia's website, so is it just my graphics card? Do I need a lot more memory or a new card altogether? The other new games I have (Warcraft III and Return to Castle Wolfenstein for example) run pretty smoothly in decent resolutions (without being forced to choosing options that make video quality suffer); but then again this seems it would demand better resources to run well.. Should I just get the XBox game and ask my friend to borrow his console? :p :joke:
Cheers,
deadman.
EDIT: I'm running the original version (not patched) so I can take advantage of some of the bugs :thumb: .. Does the official patch make it run smoother by any chance?

I have an Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420, and in the Morrowind Readme it gives the example that the GeForce 3 and 4 can use pixel shading, but for some reason when I go to click "On" under the options screen when you first start up the game it's all greyed-out, restricting me from changing it. How do I do this?

It actually slowed my game down for some reason, and it didn't really patch up the major problems I'm having with the game, for example my "Nice little bug" post, heh. I dunno what it patches but I hope it's worth it.

what gives? This is likely something you already remedied but just in case others are wondering, you need to copy the video folder from the cd to the morrowind directory in order for the no-cd patch to work from gamecopyworld.com

Dilldoe, from my knowledge, the Geforce 4 MX series doesnt support pixel shading.
The GeForce 3 series and the Geforce 4 Ti series support it (all the GF3's were bought out Titanium)
i may be wrong, but its my understanding that your card wont do pixel shading. The GF4 mx series was bought out as a consumer video card that was fast and cheap for every man and his dog. unfortunately it doesnt have some of the extended architecture that the Titanium series has.
Personally i have a fondness for the Radeon series. its done wonders for my computer. in fact, i better my friends framerate on 3dMarkPro2001 by about 20 fps running on highest resolution. He has a Athon 2000+ with a GF3, and i have a PIII 600 with a Radeon 8500. not too bad a boost in performance id say.
i know that was totally irrelavent.
i just thought id share it for interests sake :)
