Thanks a lot for that info.
However, as part of my nightmare of jumping through hoops, I can't extract *.ace files as archives. :(
Is there anyone anyway at all to link just straight to the exe file?? Any help is very much appreciated.
PS - Not sure if I am more mad at myself for putting up with this or for the game for being released like that. :( :(

Have you gotten the newest version of (
http://www.winrar.com) ? If you don't have it then you can't extract it. If you still are having problems feel free to email me rmorency@tampabay.rr.com and i'll send ya just the exe file :)

Having trouble with the No-CD crack only working one time? Read on!
Somebody posted this solution...I thought it was in this thread, but now I can't find it. Anyways, I tried their strategy and it seems to work quite nicely.
Morrowind seems to really dislike it when you try to replace the real .exe with the cracked one by renaming it -- when I tried, it loaded the game okay once and then decided I didn't even have a CD-ROM drive every time after. The Morrowind Launcher itself must run some sort of check or something. Instead, if you keep *both* files there and simply create a new shortcut directly to the cracked .exe, you can bypass the Launcher and load the game successfully every time! (At least...so far....)
Step-By-Step Instructions1) Download and unpack the No-CD crack from
(
http://dl.gamecopyworld.com/dl.cgi?Morrowind_NOCD!ace)
If you have trouble unpacking it, try downloading the latest version of WinAce from
(
http://www.winace.com)
2) Without renaming it, copy the cracked .exe into your program directory (typically C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind).
3) Using the *right* mouse button, drag the cracked .exe onto your desktop and release it. A menu will pop up; you should select 'Create Shortcut(s) Here.'
4) Now you have two ways of running Morrowind. If you use the link in your Start Menu, that will open the Morrowind Launcher where you can load new mod files and play the game with full copy protection running in the background. Whenever you want to play without SafeDisc interfering with your performance -- which should be most of the time -- just double-click the new shortcut on your desktop and it'll directly launch the game.
Using this strategy, I've consistently achieved that performance boost kathode was talking about. I hope this helps!

What's the performance/crashing like when using UnSafedisc instead of the modified .exe?

Thanks Dark...
In my continued journeys :o I did get the file extracted..and lo and behold it did not work either, much to my surprise and disappointment. :(
I still always crash during character creation after picking up the dagger/misc stuff and clicking on the door to exit (always go right to desk top).
I am curious...is it just this spot? In theory once I get thru player creation would I be able to play I wonder?...(game runs smoothly looks great other than crash ;p)...
And can you move the loaded game...like if I was somehow able to get it to work on another PC could I 'move' the loaded game and load it on my PC?
Thanks again for everyone's helps and tips (I have followed all the ini changes and other stuff, really thought the new exe would work :( :).

kryv the crshing to desktop sounds like a video card driver problem. I had the same thing happen a few months ago when I first tried to play Dark age of Camelot, would load up for a couple mins then crash to desktop. I use geforce video card and dloaded the latest driver from (
http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=drivers) and voila ran fine forever more.
Just tossing idea out to try and help

lucinda is right sounds like video card issues... get the most current detonator drivers... also to answer your ? bout the save game stuff... if you look in your morrowind directory there is another folder called saves... inside this is your saves you can move this from comp to comp, delete, backup, whatever floats yer boat ;)
