Wow...
I'm rather dumbfounded after reading all the recent posts, and am now asking myself, "What did I join this for?"
I've been trying to catch up on what's going on around the forum by visiting past posts. And, in doing so, I've got to say that I'm sickened by the amount of mean spirited posts just for the sake of being--well--dicks (and I listen to Opie and Anthony!). But I guess that is today's mentality: "I've got a soapbox, and you can't knock me off." It's the attitude of an entitlement to say whatever one wants regardless of anyone else--just because one can.
But just because you can post whatever the hell you want, doesn't mean you should.
I joined to talk about Thief and to B.S. with other (if possible)--and hopefully make a few net friends. Screw that!
This is awful.

@the_grip. Would be quite interested in those studies you quote. Negative/positive versus positive/negative/positive - Sounds completely bizarre to me.
i need to dig up my organizational behavior notes at home. i'll try to get back to you on specifics.
Basically, the most common approach to delivering constructive criticism is via the "sandwich" method --> i.e. "Your speech was really good. Just as an aside, you probably should speak up a little bit. All in all, though, I really liked your attention to detail." What tends to happen is that people either write you off as being wishy washy because you were not clear on the criticism enough, or, more often, the negative criticism is downplayed or dismissed by the recipient (men do that latter much more in general than women - yes, a generalization, but that's what i've read).
The alternative approach (which supposedly is better) is just to come out and say the negative stuff first and then bring out a positive. i.e. "You need to speak up more in your speeches, but I liked your attention to detail."
Why does that sound bizarre?

Oh this is normal around here, if this is your first venture into here, sorry. Welcome to the forum anyway. It can be good at times. Their so called smartness overrides anything coherent that might resemble common sense. Normal, I assure you. But, don't let that sway you. There have been many good discussions, and there will continue to be many good discussions. This is comm chat. The nut haus.
You have to come into comm chat with armor plating on, and ready to go, if you can't cut the mustard, there are other forums to frequent.

Because, put like that with illustration, it doesn't sound bizarre at all. But, the studies would be very interesting to read so would appreciate the info.

You mean you can't read my mind, WTF?
LOL obviously i need more help with my communication skills :). Like i said, i learn this stuff mostly from my own mistakes... all the time.

Well what is bizarre is that so often, when I'm thinking about someone, they phone. But no, don't think I can reach that far! :D

Oh come on. Gillie makes sense, sure, but her posts are like poetry and no amount of handwringing and wailing about the ebil posters of CommChat is going to change that.
"Then telling me not; to post anymore" <- is this semi-colon intended? If it is then I'll wager she is doing it on purpose.
There is much harsher criticism and bitching on this forum - I don't see how or why this stands out (especially as I perceive the same issues as fett), think that his suggestions weren't bitchy anyway AND since Gillie is a native English speaker I know that she finds her own posting style odd or contrived because come on where else do you read posts like that?

Gillie's posts in this thread are an abomination of grammar and sentence structure. If she chooses not to clean up her prose to effectively communicate her ideas, why should the rest of us hold our tongues?
I'm not trying to oust her or anything, but communication is all we've got here.
Edit: also, it looks like she deleted some posts in this thread. If that's the case, she can fuck off and never come back.

dethtoll--
Nice, I like that! It really captures the Emo-loser spirit (self portrait?):ebil:
BrokenArts--
Thanks for the heads up. So, I guess that means it's whatever makes you feel good, right? As long as you feel good. Right?
