I don't mean to be an ass, but you're being ignorant. Do some serious research on the topic and you'll realize that vegetarian and vegan diets can be extremely healthful even for athletes. Hey, ever heard of Dave Scott, Robert Cheeke, Carl freakin' Lewis? Here's more: "Former champion bodybuilder, Bill Pearl is a vegetarian. So is the legendary 6'8, 320 pound wrestler, Killer Kowalski; fitness guru, Jack LaLanne; Olympic gold medalist, Edwin Moses; and 6-time Ironman Triathlon winner, Dave Scott, just to name a few." ((
http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/nutrition/vegetarian.htm) source)
I don't mean to interrupt the Gillie Death Spiral here, but fucking christ you two are retarded, and didn't understand anything that I said.
You want to throw up bodybuilding diets, fuck yeah, go for it, I know more about them than either of you. In the past year I've dropped about 75 pounds of fat and gained about 25 pounds of muscle, while working out 5 days a week and voraciously reading everything I could while getting advice from two friends of mine who are semi pro bodybuilders. For the first six months of it I was so fucking dialed in to my diet I knew every macro nutrient I was eating on a daily basis to within 20-50 calories.
But fuck, really, a couple of people go against the grain and you point to them as though "Hell athletes know more about eating" well, fuck, yeah, they do, and 99% of them DO eat meat. Fuck, a lot of them that's all they eat. Pointing to a vegan athlete or two and saying that's the best way to get cut is like pointing to Father Don, who raped an altar boy, and saying that the catholic church really knows how to take care of kids.
What I was saying is that while you can function on a vegetarian diet, it is never going to be as optimal as one that includes animal sources of protein. That's just the way it is. It's an uphill battle, and you're just putting roadblocks between you and the correct diet, by not including them. Yeah, sure you can point to some extreme world class athletes who managed to do fine on a vegetarian diet, and that doesn't prove jack fucking shit. They're outliers. They're managing to support themselves IN SPITE of the fact that they don't eat meat, not because of it. Designing a diet that actually gets you all the nutrients you need is hard enough WITH meat, and to deny yourself that portion just makes it an far more difficult than it needs to be.
If you have strict 100% compliance to a controlled, meticulously planned athlete's diet, yeah, sure you can do it, and probably figure out a way to do it without meat.
And you know what? I fucking guarantee that none of you guys do, because Carl Lewis and those guys have a team of nutritionists planning everything they eat. You sad sack of shit little fuckers don't.
So, given that, and the fact that slight variances from the perfect diet are harder and harder to correct as you remove sensible sources of protein and nutrients, smug self congratulatory lines like "Vegetarian FTW. Meat problems (plus a ton of other stuff) fixed." is at best, misguided, and you two running in here without even understanding what I was saying is just plain fucking retarded.

Wow, what's your beef?
PigLick on 20/2/2008 at 06:14
I think RBJ got pissed with your use of the word 'healthful', is that even a word?
wait it is, scratch that one. Still doesnt sound like a proper word though.

I don't care if there is a recall. My huge beef is staying right where it is.

I personally haven't eaten any source of beef for ~3 years, because of crap like this... (Still eat chicken, mostly in the form of ramen), and I think healthwise, likely the best thing to do is omit some meats (namely beef and most pork for me, those being the most unhealthy). Of course, I don't have any research to back this up, I just lost some weight and have felt better.
(And as far as the grammer, I really don't mind posts I can't understand too much, I'll just skip over them. The only posting grammer that annoys me is posting so terrible that it actually draws my eyes to it due to being so fragmented and poorly spelled the difference between it and other posts stands out, things like AOL gramerz and CaPiTaL DiSoRgAnIzAtIoN)

As has been the case for much too long in CommChat, and perhaps TTLG as a whole, we are becoming pretty vitriolic.
Yup. At times posts on TTLG read like House, M.D., just without the wit.

i know you relish being an asshole, but please - if you are going to quote what i said, at least quote it in response to me. Does my handle read ChickenMcOwnage or Mr. K.? Didn't think so.
On second thought, since you seem to have difficulty grasping Internet colloquialism and find it “condescending”, “smug”, and the like, maybe i'm asking for too much.
But please do continue your myopic diatribe on nutrition as gleaned from meatheads. I'm sure they and the likes of
Men's Health and body building magazines trump the nutritionists and doctors that I've spoken with. Surely they do.
And surely receiving proper nutrition through a vegetarian diet requires a team of nutritionists. It is just so damn hard to find a proper mix of protein and other nutrients to constitute a healthy diet apart from animal products... us veggies are so ignorant. Thanks for straightening that out because none of us have researched this topic at all.
p.s. i've been lifting weights regularly since I was 13-14 years old, and I swear every gym across America has its fair share of resident “semi pro” body builders. They were even around in my high school weight room, and they like nothing more than to poke their tits in the mirror and say, “Nur nur nur... look at me hottie... nur nur nur,” as some gym floozie walks by... a constant source of entertainment.
