I've been a little reluctant to have HTML enabled in the forums for quite some time now and while we've had no real problems with it there have been a couple of close calls so I've decided to permanently disable it as I feel it's pretty silly to keep it on.
If there are any BBCodes you would like to have that would mimic certain HTML ability then please let me know and I shall do my best to accommodate them. :)
Disabling HTML means I can do some nicer things with the spoilers. So soon you'll won't have to click-drag to read spoilers, instead you'll just have to click them.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

[spoiler]Just like this, in fact![/spoiler]

Well, there's superscripts, those entity things, subscripts, all those tags with more precise meaning (strong, em, cite, var, and probably others), alt attributes, same-window links, title attributes, id attributes, and probably one or two other things that I won't think about until I try to use them.
It's probably already obvious that I like HTML and don't like square bracket forum languages. Nevertheless, I think you should turn HTML back on. Block all tags and attributes other than a whitelist if you like, but I think turning it off completely is an overreaction - it's been on for years, and as you said, there have been no real problems with it.

Aww, I liked <del>,  and . :(
But yeah, there's always the possibility of someone redirecting to last measure or tubgirl or something or just breaking tables.

Uh-oh. Do we get a HTML-posts egoserch then?
Anyway, here's a few more I can think of:
Code:
<img align width height alt>
<a target>
<hr>
marquee (lol band)
<s>
And then there's all the &characters;
Vigil on 2/1/2007 at 15:58
Jeshibu has a point, <del> is pretty useful and there's no equivalent strikethrough appearance tag in UBB yet.
You utter fucking cunt how am I going to dress up my images now
Vigil on 2/1/2007 at 16:08
oh shiiii
Any chance you could rustle up a toolbar-button for it too?
David on 2/1/2007 at 16:20
Yeah, I'll do the other simple tags too, but they probably won't get toolbar buttons.
I would prefer having HTML on as it does make things a little easier, however there are too many flaws in too many godknows what browsers and addons.
It's too easy for someone to grab cookies these days using a browsing add on, or dodgy browser.
Once a stable usergroup and/or tag-based addon/default option appears in then I will enable certainly consider enabling HTML again.
It would be easy to leave it on and disable it if/when something went wrong, but they horse has alreay bolted and who knows what damage could be done if an admin cookie was gained. Sure, it couldn't be used to access the Control Panel, but there are a lot of things that could be done.

Well this utterly sucks.

I'll die without my &chars;.
Simply die!
