Hello all.
Does anyone have, or know if a HP Pavilion g6-2212sa 15.6” Laptop? will play Thief 1 / 2 and Dromed v1.19.
It has a good spec as far as I can tell (not a computer expert by a long way).
Some features:
Windows 8
Intel i5 core
Intel HD Graphics 4000 (up to 1.65 GB dedicated RAM)
I ask because I am thinking of buying one but it must play thief… it must.
Thanks in advance. LS :thumb:

yes, it will run fine. just make sure to disable multisampletype in cam_ext.cfg. and you can probably forget about the new eyecandy stuff like bloom as well, but that shouldn't matter much.
the general rule is, any pc made after 2003 should be able to run NewDark in the basic mode (non hd resolutions, no graphic enhancements) decently. the oldest one I've tried was a p3 1GHz/radeon9550/512MB system ram, and as long as I kept the resolution down, the game(s) ran fine.
so I wouldn't be scared of using a 2013 laptop.

Well its better than nothing, but IMHO I would say not really. see the (

What site did you look at for this laptop..? so I can see if I can find you one with a better GPU.

Thats the problem, the native res of the screen on this laptop is 1366*766 and ordinarily most people will play games at the native res of the laptops screen. But that asisde why drop £400-500 and not be able to play thief with the majority of the eye candy.

well yes, intel's inability to produce a decent piece of graphics hardware is quite legendary. but, it needs to be noted that for someone who is not really into gaming (or only wants to run a bunch of really old games), a dedicated (notebook) graphics card might be unnecessary, only increasing total cost, heat output and battery strain.
but if you want to fire up a new(er) game occasionally, I would also recommend an amd or nvidia gpu - even the slowest ones are much faster (and more compatible) than anything intel has to offer. for example, HP Pavilion g6-2231 should offer a much better gpu performance (radeon hd7670M).

That's not so true anymore. Thanks to years and years of hard work on their part, Intel integrated GPUs have upgraded from absolutely atrocious to solidly mediocre these days. Massive amounts of improvement have been made.
Rumor has it the higher end Haswell chips will make an even more astounding jump into decent enough territory.

true. but still, not recommended to anyone who considers himself a gamer, even if only an occasional one.
and their drivers are still horrible - for example, reporting availability of features that are implemented poorly, or not at all. some games will fail to launch because of this, and have to be either started in safemode, or edited before running.

This is the problem that I have, I know bugger all about the tech part of computers beyond memory size, hard drive and that sort of basic stuff. hyper threading is all rocket-sprockety to me. At the moment I have a Dell Inspiron 9100 which while being old and heavy seems to handle Thief 1 and 2 with Dromed very well. but it is reaching the end of its life now.
Suggestions for a lighter, better laptop would be appreciated.
