Are they susceptible to a back stab in the dark mod? I can remember failing a couple of times, but wasn't sure if that was a result of the awkward sword mechanics (sorry but as much as try I can't get used to their sword swinging mechanism).
They can survive backstab in Dark Mod (bastards) but you can kill them if you know how to do it (still, they can survive quite a lot of hits which makes them a lot more fearful than in Thief - not speaking about sound though).
I don't ever kill or blackjack burricks, I did it once and my girlfriend (she loves animals) was angry at me because of the sound they made:( I love them now and would like to buy one once I am retired
Back to the topic question - Including dynamic shadows and improved sound propagation, I would like to see a type of enemy that once spots Garrett and instead of going to fight, lurks in the shadows and secret passages.

Lurks in the shadows as a means of avoiding Garrett or in attempt to ambush Garrett? I'm not sure how you could make it so an enemy can be effectively hidden in the shadows whilst still being effectively able to navigate yourself. Work arounds in fan missions have been to make the enemy translucent such as in the T2 FM: Equilibrium, however taking this approach is probably going to look a bit cheesy in a modern engine.

I think you could very easily pull off some sort of Halo/Crysis-invisibility-cloak effect, but less perfectly transparent so that they're really fairly visible in light areas. In dark areas they'd be very difficult to make out.

I mean an enemy which could be able to navigate environment as Garrett to hunt him. Old F.E.A.R. had amazing AI which could navigate vertically, so I believe it can be achieved with these new fancy engines. I mean something as Shadows in Sotha's Dark Mod FM - Lich Queen's Demise (great FM btw).

I'm unfamiliar with those mechanisms, never tried Halo and lost interest in Crysis after about 15 minutes. If I'm looking at someone in the shadows, would I be able to see the wall through their body?
The only alternative I can think of is some kind of fogging shroud effect... no ignore that thought it can only lead to bad places.

Hmm, maybe that FM is worth giving a second go, couldn't find the impetus to go much further than the courtyard on my first playthrough.

Really worth it. I consider it one of the best of The Dark Mod. Also, the new one - Old Habits Rebuild by Obstortte has amazing AI - they communicate and warn when there is trouble, greet each other, comment on opened doors and stuff (probably will be in 2.0 release).
