If you're trying to get me to admit to parts of the original games which didn't appeal to me, then I'd have to say the Haunts. Really hated dealing with those nasty buggers. Zombies weren't a fave of mine, either
You don't like zombies and haunts? That broke my heart.

My biggest gripe with haunts (and apparitions) was that they could be dealt with using the sword. Really diminished the threat level.

I learned that fact pretty late. Even so, they are very tough (I mean haunts). More than one haunt means death (and usually they are more than one), If you have only sword.

Sorry Hamadriyad; I've never, ever liked the zombies in the Thief games. I've killed dragons, slain monsters more horrible than cthulhu himself, faced down radioactive mutants too terrible to behold, laid waste to whole cities .... but I still scream like a little girl when I round the corner in a Thief game (or FM) and there's a zombie standing there. (Though I did discover that sometimes Haunts can be blackjacked, which kind of took the edge off my panic at seeing them. Of course, more than one Haunt means 'Feet, don't fail me now!')
It's downright embarrassing.

True but I usually find them on their own, obviously with the exception of the cathedral proper. As long as you sneak up on them, they're not much more dangerous than a regular guard.

Yes they are scary, but that's the beauty of it. I wish you could see how I jumped when see my first zombie in Cragscleft. :)
And Haunts, their echoing voices, chains. Scary! Cthulhu himself would scream If he would encounter a Haunt! So, there is no need to be embarrassed. ;)

Of course you can sneak, it would be bad If you couldn't. I know I can sneak up on them, still I fear, because as I said above, they are scary. Being a strong opponent is not the only issue.

The scare factor would be greater if they weren't susceptible to a well executed back stab. Scarier the better!
Are they susceptible to a back stab in the dark mod? I can remember failing a couple of times, but wasn't sure if that was a result of the awkward sword mechanics (sorry but as much as try I can't get used to their sword swinging mechanism).

... Though sniping an angry frogbeast can be a challenge :)
Ever tried blackjacking one ?
I was slightly disappointed I couldn't pick them up and use them as organic bombs when I found they could be KO'd, only slightly though as I was too busy giggling at having a KO'd frogbeast

@legoman
Yeah, it would be better If they weren't susceptible to K.O. or back stab. I have to admit though, sometimes I enjoyed back stabbing them.
I don't know about Dark Mod, unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to play it yet.
@Esme
You can K.O. frogbeasts? I didn't have a clue, wow! I am still learning.

Actually I haven't, shall try and remember to give that a go on my next playthrough.
You must have enjoyed them in thief 2 then!
