I dunno. Without an absolute ton of work, that could easily turn out like Invisible War, with its ridiculous "Hey I know you just killed dozens of our guys, but we're going to give you another chance!" situations.
True. Or given the limitations, they could simply make it a point-of-no-return monumental decision and make sure you're aware of it.
That'd be less fun overall, but hey.

You remind me of a really bad point and click called "companions of xanth". You had to decide at the beginning who to have as your travelling parter. A bloke, a virginal princess type or a hot female demon.
Of course the first trial was to get out of a cave and only one person (the virginal princess) could get you out.....
Lots of choice in that game!
FlashbackJon on 7/7/2006 at 08:26
I
PLAYED that. It even came packaged with the Xanth novel it was based on (meaning that if you read the book, you knew all the answers).

There was another game on exactly the same "puzzle" engine called Death Gate based on Weis&Hickman's Deathgate Cycle series, that one my brother played.

I got it as a "demo" on a cover CD. It was ment to be save disabled and only play 1/4th of the game.
Well I seemed to be able to save.
I also thought that if this was only a quarter of the game, it would be a very long title. That was until I finshed the game :thumb:
I wonder if anyone noticed they had released the full game on a cover disk a month before it's official release!
PS, if you look hard enough you might be able to download it.
Back to SS2.
I would have liked to see more of xerces. Kind of dissapointing when we had such a good shodan the xerces was just a rather annoying voice!

Xerxes is a neutered AI, a consequence of the (altogether now...) Disaster on Citadel Station. These events led to investigations on the private lifes of several corporate AIs.
Supposedly one used a stooge to hire a hacker and a killer to rid it of it's ethical constraints.

Having finished SS2 for the first time an hour ago I have a few ideas for improvements, although i dont expect any of them to ever be implemented. I think there should have been more enemies, after i while i got a bit sick of hybrids, and were so pathetic. introduction of new hard and unknown enemies keeps you on your seat, and your heart racing. Like one of the first time you see the robot mother things (cant remember) when you get the tank of toxin-A walking down the corridor I literally had my character sitting in the corner of the room in fear of the unknown robotic footsteps. Also the introduction of the rumbler was really pathetic. First time encountering one was in the basketball court and it was just sitting there facing away from me doing nothing, wasnt very scary at all, which set my mood for the rest of my rumbler encounters. If they had it jumping out at you after a tight corner i would probly shot my whole clip of whatever gun I was holding while running as far and fast as I could. Also the ending was sorta meh, why would
Shodan fight you in her own virtual world and make herself vunerable? just seemed stupid. ALso the voice acting for the last 'nah' from hacker was so pathetic, not only on a story line level as you have no choice, but also the voice itself didnt fit the character or the mood at all.
These are just my few criticism which could be improved. Keep in mind i just finished it an hour ago, so I have a fresh memory from a first play through, something many of you may have been lost through playing it through more.
Edit- In fact thinking back all the first encounters with enemies are some of the most best experiences in the game. For example the first hybrid encounter is a great unsettling start to game, seeing these strange creatures shadows slow moving closer through the darkness yelling "KILLL!! MEE!!" is great. Also walking up to a monkey and being hit suddenly by their psy attack was very unsettling and reminded me how nothing is safe. Who can forget the first encounter with the servo robots with their friendly voices :D. For such a fearsome creature as the rumbler and also the flying thing, I would definately make these first encounters much more scary as a improvement to the game.

Bear in mind that
Shodan didn't think it was possible for her to be defeated by a mere human. Plus, the terminals that Delacroix implemented introduced more vulnerability than Shodan would have otherwise had.Quote Posted by Jesus_On_Wheels

You're not the only one who didn't like it. I thought it was kind of funny, myself, but I appear to be in the minority.
It has been suggested that the "Nah" was simply a placeholder until something more definitive could be recorded. The end of SS2 was rushed by the publishers because of deadlines. This may have forced the team to leave the placeholder in the cutscene instead of coming up with something better.Quote Posted by Jesus_On_Wheels

I felt the same way. SS2 was my first FPS, and my nerves were already frayed with the beginning of the game. When the door slid open and the hybrids charged, I screamed and ran for my life.
ZylonBane on 11/7/2006 at 14:31
Something I've heard a few times regarding the ending is that they had something much better planned, but lost some critical files (motion captures, I think) and threw together the final ending with what they had.
Kolya on 11/7/2006 at 15:02
Since Goggles never spoke before or after it would be easy enough to record an appropiate response that replaces the infamous "Nah".
Suggestions for the ultimate one liner please!
Keep in mind that Shodan just offered an alliance. Anyone can dig up the right string? Enchantermon?
AxTng1 on 11/7/2006 at 15:17
String? It's in an AVI so it's unlikely
SHODAN: "...Join me, human, and we can rule.... together"
GOGGLES: "Nah"
SHODAN: "...Join me, human, and we can rule.... together"
GOGGLES: "OK I'll join you... TO SOME CONCRETE GALOSHES!!!"
SHODAN: "...Join me, human, and we can rule.... together"
GOGGLES: "Can I be on top?"
SHODAN: "...Join me, human, and we can rule.... together"
GOGGLES: "Leeeeeeeeroy...."
Nah.
