Woah. Absolutely get back to Ponterbee. It's a really first-class piece of work.

Aye, I had planned this anyway. :)
Though atm (
http://www.ragingmole.com/RTC/) Dungeon Master has me in it's grip ... again.

I couldnt have a cat with me on the Von Braun.. Too much 'rescue the kitty with enough explosives to make Rambo green with envy' would be taking place on my part.. But I suppose there could be a reason to drop a fish pond or two in Hyrdoponics or something.. After all, the VB needs renewable food if their that far from earth.

Fixed.

Well you could just use a multimeter for that. Oscilloscopes are for viewing waveforms (or, ahem, oscillations).
And that's why bullets in SS2 don't send objects flying across the room.
Waveforms are a side-effect. The oscilloscope plots voltage against voltage, so by connecting a sawtooth generator to the X input you can plot voltage against time.

And I want children. Where have all the children gone anyway?
So children corpses and hybrid-children.
The hybrid-children would have developed a passive attack that blinds you for a few secs. You would have to rely on audio completely for this time (children laughter). And while you are blind they would come and bite you into your legs and arms. They could also carry around toys or ride little tricycles. The good thing about the children would be that no other enemies attack you while you have a bunch of kids around you.
Also if the corpses would stand up sometimes that would add some scare factor. The ones you shot as well as the usual ones.
Um...can't think of anything else right now. Hopefully it's not all been done in Ponterbee. ;)

If the moral implications of shooting at a few polygons that look like children are too hard to take (I'm thinking of that Bioshock thread, yes.) then just make them permanent ghosts.
They can't be shot and don't attack you but still blind you. Then of course other enemies would attack you (the children ring the alarm when they see you). For the kids it's all a game of hide and seek...and you would have to hide from them. They haven't realised they're dead you see. Therefor the perma ghosts.

Alright man, why the hell would there be kids on the Von Braun? Its an experimental field test of the FTL drives, and its having trouble staying functional with an all adult staff.. Why bring kids? If you had children, would you want to bring them 67 trillion miles from earth into god-knows-what territory?

First of all this mission wasn't the suicide mission you make it look like when it started. The public was enthused, the conditions on earth were worsening and the possible sideffects of the FTL drive were swept under the rug to be a personal problem of M. Delacroix.
Fancy promovideos were circulated like the one we see at the start of the game and another one that was only mentioned, where the Rickenbacker detached and fought a fleet of "alien" ships while the Von Braun escapes.
"Providing security for the Von Braun as she plowers through the heavens will be ... Captain William Bedford Diego, hero of the battle of Boston harbour..."
Triop had a great interest to make this mission look less dangerous than it was and they had the means to make it seem safe. February 3rd is the day the magic happens, not the day when you depart into an uncertain future among cold shining stars.
So some thousand crew members board this ship. I don't remember the exact number as it always seemed too high compared to the quarters provided...
But did all these people have no children? Or did they all leave them behind on earth? After all they didn't know exactly when they would return. Add the time debit they raised on a FTL flight and it would be likely that their kids had grown adults before they returned!
So in the interest of a working social society onboard the Von Braun you can bet that Triop would have allowed children onboard. Otherwise they'd simply would have had problems getting all the high profile scientists they wanted.
The real reason why there are no children onboard as decided by the ss2 devs is of course the moral problem I mentioned before. There's no good reason given within the game. So instead of children we got monkeys. They are small and cute too. But no one cares if you shoot monkeys in a game.
