Alright, I have been stumbling around trying to figure out where to go for many hours now. I'm now to understand that the things I suspected to be teleporters are, but I have no clue how to use them. As I understand that I need to use them to even get into Arx, any assistance is appreciated.

You don't need to use them to get into Arx. You don't need to use them at all actually, they're just there to speed up travel. You need to activate them with a spell, and you can only travel between those you have activated. The Sister of the Erydium that takes care of the library in the castle will show you how and give you the necessary runes when you've advanced far enough in the plot.

exploer the troll bridge area more thoroughly
after u cross the troll bridge toward the troll base, go left. all the way in the back, go around the rocks, into the crystal caves. in the crystal caves you can get up into arx.
you will learn how to activate the portals in arx

I have a slightly different question... what if someone, say, got to the point where the kind Sister shows you the spell and wasn't paying attention? :D
