I have read how to do it somewhere, but can't find it anymore... how do you take a screenshot of your own created character from the front (face, etc.)?

Two options:
1. While in 3rd person, press and hold the key you've selected to toggle between 1st and 3rd person views, then move the mouse around to swivel the camera around your character. Though this won't be ideal for zooming in on your face.
2. Bring up the console ("~") and enter "tfc", short for "toggle flying camera" and enjoy your out-of-body experience. Note that you can go wherever you like that way, but if you stray far enough from your character (and that means far), the world around you will look very low-detail - this is because the LOD is calculated in relation to your character's position, not the camera's. Anyhow, this should allow you to get your mugshot.
Also, if you want, you can use "tm" in the console to toggle menus and the HUD on or off.
