Hi,
im encountering similar problems to other people in this discussion ( the game starts fine, but at random points it crashes) and none of the suggestions seem to work. so, since everyones problems are different and you guys seem to know what your on about i thought i'd just ask!
System Specs
3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 processor
ASUS Extreme AX300 series Graphics Card
XP Professional (service pack 2)
1GB Ram
Any ideas??

You mean crashes to desktop without any error messages?
What you are describing does resemble the HT/dualcore random freezes...

the crashes dont even go to the desktop, the screen freezes as it is and when you try to close it (using the task manager) it just comes up with the usual "this program is not responding message". it could be a HT problem but the solutions used earlier on in the discussion dont work....

Well, that is almost definitely a HT problem. In fact, I had the identical symptoms when I had my 2.8 Ghz P4 with HT enabled.
Fixed it by simply disabling the 2nd CPU in Set Affinity, later I learned about the program imagecfg that makes you able to modify affinity headers permamently with a system command.

cant install the game on xp
i did try doing setup -lgntforce but it doesnt work :(
is there any other way?

Then just copy the game files directly from the CD, you do need an Install.cfg though.

Thanks Bjossi, dissabling the 2nd cpu worked ( i checked, and that was used earlier in the discussion but i missed it!)

Just remember that you need to disable it every time in Set Affinity when you run the game, if you haven't made the change permament with ImageCfg that is.

I've been having a problem with the screen blacking out after the first cutscene plays. It goes black, you can here the monitor switch modes and it stays that way. Alt tabbing back to windows shows an error message that states somethings not reporting texture sizes properly.
I have installed SHTUP and a file called "complimented rebirth" which I take is Rebirth without the Cyborg midwife models.

Write the line safe_texture_manager at the bottom of cam.cfg and it should get fixed. If it doesn't get fixed, you might not have made SS2 properly mod-ready.
