If I remember correctly, there was one player who had an identical problem to yours not long ago. I'll try to find it, maybe you could help me, it ain't just a few posts...:p
EDIT
I can't find it unfortunately, I went a whole month back in time in this thread.
Try run the game from command-line, maybe we'll at least get an error message that way, to get closer towards fixing your problem. :)

Tried it in command line but still no response, the cursor very briefly changes to sand timer but then normal cursor again. When I try it in the different comp modes the screen willflash black briefly once or twice but thats all....

Did you try a no CD patch or at least a fixed executable? This could be SecuROM related. Also, try rename the lgvid.ax (have I suggested that to you before?) to anything.
Also make sure you are running the executable with a single core if you have a dualcore or HT processor. You can do that with ImageCfg.

Well I got a patch last nite to 2.3 and it runs!....for a while then freezes after couple minutes of gameplay, I think this prob has already been addressed tho...

Sounds like the dual-processor problem. Look around for a solution.

I thought it was common sense to install the latest patch before requesting help about technical problems, so I assumed you already had installed it.
But as Drat said, that is very likely the dualcore/HT problem.

Hello everyone, this is my first post!
Yesterday I was discussing "old" games with a friend and we talked a bit about System Shock 2. I decided to dig out my old cd and play it.
I installed the game and the latest patch (2.3) and started the game. The screen went black for a second and there was a clicking sound (The sound my monitor does when it changes resolution). Suddenly the game quit and jumped back to windows again. I tried several patches that were supposed to fix problems in Win2k but none of them worked.
My specs:
Athlon XP 1900+
Sapphire Ati Radeon 9800 Atlantis (with the latest drivers)
512 MB ram
Windows 2000 SP 4
DirectX 9.0c

Try rename lgvid.ax, this could be a codec problem. Since after the screen goes black, you're supposed to see videos.

Thanks Bjossi! As you said it was a codec problem. The game works just fine now!

No problem, enjoy the game. :)
