Just tried it. Renamed LGVID.ax to LGVIDjajajojojajota.ax or some such nonsense. Didn't work, but the cinematic cutscenes at the start stopped playing. Do I have to give it some specific name?

No, I was just checking if the cutscenes were the problem. Just rename it back. Try the game with or without compatibility mode. (try every option in the dropdown)

Hi everyone!
I'm a new member of this forum and been looking for the answer on how to run SS2 on Window XP with Service Pack 2. This maybe an old topic, but I couldn't find the answer on this forum (up to where I've read)
My problem is simple: I've installed SS2 from the original CD (english version) and it just don't run when I click on SHOCK2.EXE.
Any help (or link to a post to solve this issue)?
Lots of thanks in advanced...!!

You get no error message or anything when you run shock2.exe? This could be a SecuROM issue, also try compatibility if you haven't already.
What are your computer specs by the way?

Hi Bjossi...!
After installing the game, I just get nothing when I click on SHOCK2.EXE. No error mesagge, no strange sound. Nothing, nada, nichts.
I've already tried all the Compatibility options (Windows 95, Windows 98/Me, Windows NT, Windows 2000), but I got the same problem: it does nothing.
My PC specs:
- Intel Pentium 4 1.80Ghz.
- 512 RAM
- Windows XP Professional (2002 version) with Service Pack 2
- GeForce 4 MX
Thanks for replying...!

Have you tried a no CD patch or a fixed EXE? I'm not going to help you find one though, but those could work if your problem is related to your computer not liking SecuROM.

Good news! Compatibility mode worked. In Windows NT, of all options. Thanks for your help, Bjossi!

Well, I had that problem until patching it to version 2.3. If you haven't done that there's a link in the red FAQ by David.

Okay, I installed the game no problem, and it worked well for a few minutes. Then, it started freezing, and I had to ctrl-alt-del to close it. I did that a few times. Then it started giving me this message every time I try to start the program:
System Shock 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I've tried compatibility mode, and I've reinstalled. I also patched, and the same problem still exists. Anybody know what to do?
