I don't think that will help. Like I said, I was redirected to this thread without looking for any other threads on this forum.
If I had found this forum just like that, I would have scrolled through it seeing the FAQ Thread and there would be no post here...
Blame it on my shitty mood and frustration.

I hate to join just to ask a stupid question, but that's pretty much the case. After exhausing all options, I have no idea how to get the sound working in SS2. I'm running it on Windows XP, and nothing works. I've tried downloading the patch, and it isn't even working with it.
I tried changing the compatibility, and nothing.
I've never played the game before, and I really want to enjoy it, but with no sound, I have a feeling I'll have a hard time of it.
The sound in the FMVs works fine, but that's it. Any solutions are really appreciated.

What sound hardware are you using?
Are drivers up to date? Tried lowering hardware acceleration (if you have onboard audio)? Tried messing with the audio options in-game?
These are few things I can think of.

I recent got the urge to play SShock 2 again but have had zero luck in making it run. Basically when I choose the option to start a new game the intro movie plays and the loading screen completes. But then, I'm greeted by a black screen and a windows "ding" from an error dialog box that I cant see (since the screen is black). Hitting enter takes me back to the desktop.
I've tried the imagecfg fix, which worked fine for me with Thief 3 and Deus Ex IW. I've tried the patch found on the first post in this thread (just gives an error, yes I unwrapped the executable first). I've tried manually setting the processor affinity. I've even tried compatibility modes. Am I missing something?
Specs:
Core 2 Duo T7400
2048MB RAM
Mobile nVidia 7600GT 256MB
Realtek HD onboard audio
WinXP Pro SP2
(its a 24" iMac dual booting XP via bootcamp)

Try add the line: safe_texture_manager at the bottom of cam.cfg in the main SS2 folder.

You can manually install it, but you'll need an install.cfg so the game detects the CD.

Doing that + removing safedisc + renaming the executable seems to have fixed it.
I'm not quite sure why, but when the testme.exe executable created by the safedisc unwrapper is renamed to shock2.exe the black screen comes back. Something must be trying to force a compatibility mode that doesnt work when it sees the shock2 executable filename.
Thank you for your help.
