Yes.
If you don't have the video codecs installed, or if the video files are missing, System Shock 2 simply skips them.

Okay, so I got mine to work. I guess it didn't like the NOCD patch. Basically it means that I have to play with the game CD in the drive. I can live with that :cheeky:
Man, I forgot how awesome this game is

well, it seem that I'm not alone with SS2 winXP problem. I tried everything - even registered in two forums. In the early morning hour I just finished doom3, and decided to play - as every year during summer - SS2. But somehow I can't. This is the first time this problem occured.. I tried different drivers, GeForce cards MX400 and MX440, patches and it seem that that It won't run with XP.
I encountered this kind of problem with Counterstrike under XP, but overriding GeForce automatic values into manual solved the problem. Last help is Win98..
DxDiag says that I don't have Direct3d driver
:weird: can anyone help????

Just thought I'd quip in here (yeah I'm new, etc...so forgive me if this i repetitive, etc.). Using the copy of the game I obtained from a place after looking for a long while worked perfectly for me, with all of my new drivers and without having on 'compatibility mode'. Actually, turning on compatibility mode resulted in the game freezing when trying to load/start a game.
(I'm also using the Hi-res textures and better models packs...)
Just something for people trying all the compatibility modes and reverting drivers...try running the game first. THEN try the 'fix' options. :)

The patch is already installed on that version. So don't worry about it. (At least, from what I read, if multiplayer is an option that means the games been patched).
Are you talking about the official patch or the Xp fix patch? I guess we have to install the xp fix patch, any idea on how to do that? (it shows NO CD error when i click the install icon)

Here is a reminder to you all.
System Shock 2 is NOT abandonware. Downloading a copy, no matter what the source is illegal, and breaks our (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/regs.htm) Forum Guidelines which you agreed to abide by when you signed up to these forums.
If you're having problems with a warez version of the game, that's you're own damn fault. You can (
http://www.gameswarehouse.com.au/longpage.asp?gameid=2950) purchase the game online for an excellent price. £16 shipped from Australia to the UK.
Excuses such as "I don't have a credit card" or "I can't afford it" mean nothing here.
So I reiterate, System Shock 2 is not abandonware, downloading it puts in it the same boat as any other warez software.
