How To Run System Shock 2 on Windows XP/2000

I as well am having problems getting SS2 to work. I've done everything I can think of possible and nothing works. I either come to a dead end(which means the instructions lead me to nowhere), but mostly, the end result changes nothing. Here's my problem:

I boot up system shock 2, and the screen goes black. I see a small flicker of something, then it closes. Ive tried changing compatibility. Ive downloaded the win 2000 / xp fix and it did nothing
Ive tried some sort of shortcut xcpu fix which did nothing. Ive tried looking for that ss2mtifix.exe(something like that) on (www.lanime.com), but the website is under construction and I cannot find that file anywhere else.

I'm sorry to post this, and I'm sure its some silly little problem- as it always is- but I simply cannot get this to work and I want to play badly. Ive been at it for hours :\ Any suggestions?

i installed SS2 on my XP, applied the patch and when i click 'play', it goes to a quick screen (a picture of a ship or something) and then tells me to enter the cd. i know there is a way to fix this but i can't find it in the forums, kinda noobish. thx

Do you have a CD to enter?

If he says Play, then he probably has an auto-play screen which means the CD is present. Can you see an install.cfg in your SS2 install folder?

Go the imagecfg road, it is longer but leads to a working SS2 on HT/X2 processors. :cool:

Or perhaps he is mounting an ISO, or he burned one to CD.

Anybody have a solution to my problem? Its just a couple posts up...

Ive now tried several more "solutions" that have not worked at all. I've tried so many now I forget. However, if someone could read over the symptoms and suggest something, i would be very greatful.
