It sounds like you have a Pentium with HyperThreading technology, Dark engine dislikes that feature just as much as dualcore so turn CPU1 off. :o
This information was provided in the very first post of this thread by the way.

Just a warning folks, whilst having disabled the cpu1 and getting the game to run fine, once I'd openned the door just before the first nasty human I decided "Right! It works!... Lets just save the game".
And then I got a black screen, so I restarted the computer, unfortunately I'm not able to get even the POST test start up screen.
In otherwords, use the CPU affinity function with care, because it may screw up your computer in a big way. (I'm having to post this from a friends computer).

I doubt that has anything to do with SS2. If you edit the affinity, you are only editing the Windows header for that one executable, Shock2.exe, and that shouldn't do any harm to your system as long as it isn't launched upon startup.
I have applied affinity changes to dozens of files and not a problem like what you described has happened.

Hi,
i can't hear any acoustic output in the game, can someone help me???
Larington on 18/10/2006 at 13:21
Turns out the processor had worked its way loose thats why the computer stopped booting up... Which is good, considering I can't really afford a new motherboard or processor atm.

You mean there is no sound?
element16j on 18/10/2006 at 17:08
There is sound but there isn't any "speech" in the game ( i don't know the correct translation because i'm german, the german word is "sprachausgabe").

Ah, I see.
Try lower Hardware Acceleration. You do that by clicking Start, then Run, type dxdiag and click Ok. Then in the dialog that appears, click the 'Sound' tab and there you will find the Hardware Acceleration slider. :)

You can try mess with the audio options in the game, just make sure you remember how they were before in case things just get worse.
