Did you try all the suggestions there, or just the safe_texture one?

Oh. Okay.

I've seen a few people posting this error on here (screen going black and game freezing when trying to select military branch after training at the beginning), but I didn't see a fix for it, except for something about a problem with the auto-save? I couldn't find a fix for that, though, just a recognition of the problem. I'll keep looking through this thread, but if anyone could tell me a quick fix for that, that'd be good. Thank you very much, I am really looking forward to playing this after hearing how good it is.

For most people who cannot get past the career choice. (getting a black screen instead) and everything before this point seems ok the problem lies probably in the fact that the 3ivx codec is installed. Check for it in add/remove programs and uninstall it! worked for me!! :cheeky:
the problem lies in the fact that the movie (spaceshuttle) is not played properly even though the previous movies are played correctly
This works! should be stickied!

I don't know but SS2 has just been installed and plays just fine without any tricks or tweaks AT ALL. No keys in command line, nothing like that. The only thing is that I have hyperthreading disabled in BIOS for quite a while now.
(Windows XP Pro SP1, P4 2.4)

I've never had any problems myself either. I'm running XP Pro SP2, and all I had to do was to disable the dual processor use for SS2 (and Thief) using the method described in the FAQ.

Okay, it's just REFUSING to work. I tried an older driver, I've tried the newest driver, nothing works. It just shuts down like I never even started the program, no errors or anything. HELP!!!

P.S, Got my copy illegally... IM SORRY!!! IT WAS TOO TEMPTING!!! :( :( :( so the crack asks for a CD...

It's stated quite clearly that the fixed .exe will only work with a legit copy of the game. I'm sorry, but we can't and won't help you any further with this issue.

100% money back solution to a problem if you have both:
a) a Hyperthreaded cpu
b) the following issue
Issue: Game freezes at random with an infinite sound loop when it happens requiring you to either alt+tab out of the game or at times a reset of your computer is required.
Solution:
Add the following line to the file "boot.ini" which you`ll find in the root directory of C:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional Single CPU" /numproc=1
Be sure to add the above line at the last line in the file. Adding this line 100% fixed my problems in SS2 as the game was never designed with hyperthreaded cpu`s in mind. Adding the above line will result in you being presented with the option of which version of windows you wish to load when you startup your computer. One being your normal hyperthreaded version of Windows XP and the other being the Single CPU version which will work fine with SS2.
