Well basically it's your average "error has occured in the program and thus has been closed" screen; according to the extra info the problem's being caused by LGVID.AX.
EDIT: By means of an experiment, I replaced the LGVID.AX with an empty txt file that I renamed. The game starts now, but naturally doesn't play cutscenes. Still, better than nothing, but I'd still appreciate a solution to get the cutscenes working.
EDIT2: After installing an Indeo Video package I found somewhere on these forums, the cutscenes now play without problems.
EDIT3: New problem... when starting a new game, I see only a black screen after the game has loaded. I've tried the Multithreading fix, the XP/2000 patch, adding the safe_texture_manager line to user.cfg, even a complete reinstall, and it still won't work.

Does this happen after selecting a difficulty and click Start game? Maybe it is still having problems playing the videos, try rename the folder 'cutscenes' to anything else so the game will ignore it.

Video's are no problem whatsoever; after choosing New Game, selecting a difficulty, and starting, it plays the intro, shows the loading screen, and after its done loading the screen goes black and nothing happens.

Hmm. There seems to be problem in NVIDIA's firewall. Have you tried to disable it?

Maybe the level file is corrupted, try opening your CD and find earth.mis and copy/paste it to the SS2 directory on the hard drive.

I managed to fix the problem on my own; installing the XP/2000 patch and turning off compatibility mode worked :D
Bjossi on 5/6/2006 at 12:57
Well, compability mode makes things worse. You should had turned it off after trying it.

True enough I guess. Thanks for everyone's help though.
