I finally installed System Shock 2... on Win ME.
Actually I dont recommend to anybody to do as i did(I installed the second OS with XP) Because of a lot of drivers, files and programs are mixed into something.
Also if you have the internet connection with modem dont hope for anything(as i did:to download the driver 17mb-2Hours and 24minutes. You see?)
But I have another problem now -- the saves:eww: when i want to save the game i find myself in windows screen and...nothing more...Anyone help?
p.s.I think that nobody can load the game SS2 in XP.I can explain. The Xp system is a quite another system and we can"t even complain it with other OS"s.It has another driver structure(for example in 98 drivers are nv4_disp.inf and in Xp the display driver nvidia is nv4_disp.dll).SS2 -- is a game with the graphic of the 98 times and it"s designed only for Win98.
(if you didn"t understand what i said send me personal e-mail:kaum@kahovka.net or right here)

What an odd thing to say...

Nobody can run SS2 in XP? That's definitely a weird thing to say. Most people in this forum, myself included, have the game running in XP. And I was lucky enough not to have a single problem doing it.

Alright, i'm at my wits end. I've tried many of the different things on this forum to no avail. Can anyone give me a hand? I can't even get System Shock 2s installer to run. I've tried -lgntforce and it doesn't do anything. When I put the CD in my drive and close it, the disk does autoplay. But when I click install it just sits there for 30 seconds or so with an hourglass. Then the autoplay screen disappears and nothing happens. Furthermore under taskman two processes start (names indented one whitespace to the right) called setup.exe and wowexec.exe. I thought maybe the installer was just taking forever to start so I left it overnight. Came back the next day and still nothing. If I try killing the processes, they don't die immediately and I get a Dialogue shortly after saying that the "Win 16-bit subsystem appears to have timed out, click ok to terminate the processes or cancel to continue". I've also tried using different compatibility modes with no luck. Come to think of it, I have the same problem with Thief II. Any ideas?

All I can tell you is that wowexec is a normal process that seems to launch older programs under windows XP.
Download winrar and try extracting the .cab files yourself to a directory like c:\games\systemshock2
Or something like that. You may not even have to do this. I remember once I was burning a pre-patched copy of the game for ease, and if i remember correctly, the complete game is on the CD, and doesnt need installing, its just inside a folder somewhere that you can copy onto your hard drive.
Give it a try.

When I try to run it from my hard drive it says "System Shock 2 has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows. For an update that is compatible with this version of Windows, contact Electronic Arts. To run the program, click Continue. For more information, click Details." When I click Continue wowexec.exe starts, but setup.exe doesn't. Meh... I think i'm gonna take some advice someone gave me and start beating my computer with a baseball bat until it starts to install.

I having the same problem Sandrazor was having. I tried coping the game to hard manually this seams to work fine but with no reg information I can't get the patch to install. any ideas on how to patch it?

Why is the registry information missing?
bvchaosinc on 8/4/2006 at 19:52
The installer won't even start. so I just copied all the file on the cd that are need to play the game into my hd, but this means that no information about the game in entered into the reg
