You shouldn't need to use DivX, unless you are using a pirated version of the game. And we don't help with those.

No, this is a legitimate copy of the game. I just tried DivX since a couple other people on here got it to work that way. None of the ways mentioned in the FAQ have worked for me.

Shock 2's compatibility with XP x64 Edition
I have tried to install Shock 2 on my Win XP x64 system. The installation performed normally, using the lgntforce command. However, launching shock2 EXE resulted in dialog window saying that (paraphrasing):
"Application has known compatibility issue with this version of Windows.
Launch the application anyway?"
I clicked YES. I experienced on Thief that it worked despite the warning, but shock 2 doesn't, and another error dialog window has appeared instead.
Solution:
I patched the game to 2.3, then got myself a fixed NoCD exe.
It works and runs like charm.
That's it.

So, I found my old SS2 CD in a box of CD's i was going through and installed it on Windows 2000 Pro (all drivers & service packs & hot fixes applied)
Went ahead and installed it in spite of the warning and got the startup screen and first menu just fine.... No movies. Installed the codec off the CD... movies work fine, but the fullscreen game would randomly minimize.. sometimes you could re-open and return to the game.. sometimes it would never come back.
Ripped the CD into a software image and mounted it with some safedisc emulation, same symptoms. Rebooted dozens and dozens of times, threw in the safe_texture_manager goodness.. still had problem.
The final problem seemed to be when Folding@Home client wasn't running anymore... SS2 worked fine. Even with the Folding@Home client was 'paused', It would still cause SS2 to jump into windows repeatedly. Sometimes, windows would no longer let you select System Shock off the taskbar.
Thanks for all the great FAQs, because I'm sure i'd have had the heart to continue troubleshooting without all the great posts and the volumes of information in the FAQ.
I Hope this aids someone else.

Folding@Home is a distributed computing project to simulate protien folding. Lots and lots of people run the client to donate their unused CPU cycles.
(
http://folding.stanford.edu/) is the URL for the project.
Has anyone else run into the same problem?

I had System Shock 2 installed previously and everything worked perfectly including the movies.. I installed it again because I wanted to play it and I installed it just as I did last time, with the codec and everything- but the cutscenes won't work.. I can open them from the cutscenes folder in any media player but they just don't play in game.
[Fixed, excellent! Just made it to hydroponics, by the way!]
